What minimum size machine for fitting software?

I’m a Mac user. So I have been keeping a 2010 Dell for my SmartFit software for . It’s incredibly slow, unreliable, and enormous. I am looking at possibly getting something used but newer that might take up less space and work better. Can Smartfit/NoahLink be used on any of the tablets? If not, what is smallest/cheapest devices that any of y’all use for fitting?

I’m a Windows/Intel (wintel) user, and I use a VirtualBox virtual machine to run the Oticon software. I just used the defaults that VirtualBox suggested to create the VM, installed from media downloaded from the Microsoft web site. It’s working great.

I don’t have any experience with VirtualBox for Mac, but a quick web search shows it exists. You might give that a try. Using this approach, you should expect performance approaching your Mac’s performance.

No, the fitting software only runs on Windows. It won’t run on tablets.

On a M1+ Macbook, I can run the software using Parallels Desktop but it won’t run fast (but it is very usable)

Edit: When I said it won’t run on tablets, I am referring to Android/Apple devices.

I did have a windows tab in times past running the software, so any tablet running win10/11 would work, but you’ll need to be careful and not get any ARM based chips because the Noahlink wireless doesn’t work with these, you certainly don’t need anything special, as you’ve already noticed with your old dinosaur!

OP doesn’t say if he has an Intel or M processor Mac

On Intel Mac:

You should have no issue running the fitting software with VMWare or Parallels.

On M-processor Mac:

I’ve tested running some fitting SW apps on WinARM via Parallel Tools ,

The Noahlink device won’t load sometimes on Win ARM. If this happens, just run the Noahlink firmware update app before running the fitting software.

Target & Compass run well.

Connexx runs very slow and it is unstable.The DB migration tool does not work.

Oticon runs slow.

Phillips won’t install at all.

Thanks for sharing, interesting that some work and others don’t, I’ve never owed Apples but yeah a cheap windows laptop is just a lot easier to use in this regard.

That’s what I did – just bought a used one on Amazon for $200 that had 1 yr warranty
