Years ago, I used behind-the-ear () models in skin-colored versions, but people constantly asked what they were. I also wear sunglasses all the time (I can’t go outside without them), and the devices often made cracking noises, which caused discomfort.
Later, I switched to a skin-colored model, the Oticon Alta2. No one noticed I was wearing it. However, it was insufficient in noisy environments. The removal string broke several times, and even though I never dropped the device, the shell cracked three times in six years. Eventually, it completely stopped working.
Now I’m switching to an model. I’ll soon receive the Oticon Jet PX 1, and the audiologist will adjust it.
Would someone who has been using CIC/ITC/ models for years be happy switching to behind-the-ear models for better speech understanding, noise management, and wind noise reduction?
