Look into alarms that actually shake the bed.

My understanding is because I have a memory foam mattress the bed shaker will not work

You could try a Samsung Galaxy Fit 3 band. You can often find them second hand for not much or on sale. It is usually available for between US$40 and $60 new. It does a lot more than just vibrate as an alarm, but the other features might be useful to you. You can adjust the vibration duration and intensity. It doesn't have GPS so cannot be used for location tracking.

Stand alone is fine.

I like the idea of under the sheet at the foot of the bed under my feet. That just might work.

Hi Laura, my alarm clock has the vibrator, light and sound features, can be set in any combination and varying intensity, maybe that king of system is what you need, I only use the vibrator for now but the flashing light would wake me up no problem.
