Oticon Intent My Music

Hi. I have had Oticon Intent hearing aids for roughly 2 months. I first had Resound but they had an uncomfortable tinny sound.

I should mention that although I have hearing loss it isn’t terrible at this point. I can’t hear what someone says sometimes unless they look at me. The primary reason for them is the intense tinnitus I suffer with.

The My Music program has helped some with this. Spotify has a million white noise programs to help though.

I find that the My Music program relieves me of that uncomfortable awareness of every single sound. I don’t know if these are now old considering how quickly technology changes. They never noted which one it was in the instruction book. I only know they’re miniRite.

I have had tinnitus since Thanksgiving 1975, I finally got hearing aids in 2005. I learned early on that if I was going to keep my sanity I had to learn to not pay attention to my tinnitus. I learned to meditate and from that I learned to control my tinnitus by pushing it to the far back of my mind. I learned to compartmentalize my tinnitus to the far back of my mind. As long as I don’t think about my tinnitus I don’t notice it. Also as long as I am wearing my hearing aids and not in an extremely quiet environment my tinnitus is the same not there. But it is always there if I happen to think about it.

I also have had tinnitus for many decades. The only direct “help” hearing aids do is adding a covering sound. To me, this only adds to the cacophony. However, hearing aids do help by increasing the volume of the sounds you need and want to hear.

I have learned to ignore the squealing, rumbling and other “features” of the tinnitus. It’s there, but I have better things to put my attention on.

This is something I have yet to finesse. What can be heard above this thing, the loud unending noise? Increasing the mic just makes my ears hurt. That doesn’t make sense to anyone when I say my ears hurt, but they do with loud sounds.

How do you do this? I need at times to hear what someone says the first time to alleviate frustration all around.

Honestly, as some one with hearing loss and have been wearing aids for 20 years and having tinnitus for 50 years, you will never be able to hear everything the first time again, well unless you have a miracle happen to you and you are given normal hearing. We all have to learn to accept our hearing loss and the fact aids are only that an aid. As I previously said you have to learn to not pay attention to your tinnitus. It isn’t easy but it can be done if you work at it. You will always have issues hearing conversations that is just a fact of our lives with hearing loss. The key for me has been a positive attitude and always looking for positive things and not paying attention to the negative. If you dwell on it you will go crazy.
