So completely zero response in tonal audiometry as from my left ear?

Not zero, but its not usable since they have to crank the volume and it gives high pitch noise in my head!

Infinio Sphere uses their dedicated deepsonic chip in loud noise situations to more effectively target separate speech from unwanted background noises and competing speech for up to a 10dB signal to noise ratio improvement. It can do this for a speech signal coming from any direction which is massive for someone who effectively has unilateral hearing so won’t have access to cues for separating speech from noise. I’d recommend trialing this over a system. As it’s from the same manufacturer you will probably find Phonak is happy to oblige, especially if you’re dissatisfied with the CROS system and plan on returning the product anyway. If you need more help with distant talkers a Roger On can be added to help with this.

I agree. has never given a benefit for me during trials. The sphere is great even without a on the poorer ear. Keep in mind that I have lived most of my life without a CI.
CI evaluation is also recommended in case of @Aeolian. That doesn’t oblige one to go with the surgery, but provides very useful information about individual hearing.

Thanks for the feedback on the sphere.
But I’m not a candidate for , since the nerve is likely severed during surgery.

I am definitely going for sphere trial, thanks for the feedback.
I have a question for all.
How does the phonek audeo compare to sphere, when is not triggered, for normal use?

I haven’t worn one, but I have to think they are same-same. Smaller battery, smaller body. That chip is only active in spherical mode. So nothing else changes. I often have 60% remaining battery with my spheres at the end of the day. Never been less than half.

What kind of surgery is associated with cochlear nerve damage? Neurosurgery?
I ask because many physicians cut corners in their explanations and they too often say ‘nerve’ instead of ‘cochlea’, which is unacceptable. Too frequently, people have significantly delayed cochlear evaluation because of that inaccurate information.

Besides, the purpose of cochlear evaluation is to determine whether a nerve is damaged or a cochlea.
The longer the poor ear is not stimulated, the more difficult and longer the rehabilitation could be.
I have a cochlear implant () after complete lack of stimulation in the left ear for 20 years, and rehabilitation is possible, but it is more difficult than after a short period of deafness.

Just wondering if more take on this question, cheers

You mean the non-Sphere Infinio R? With no program triggering, and assuming the same acoustic coupling, the same fitting, and the same wire length, the sounds should be the same in quiet or moderate noise.

From what Phonak’s executive VPs explained on our AMA here on these very boards a few weeks ago (that they do not mention in their marketing), they are getting such great results from the Infinio Sphere that they have not needed to expand the Sphere line to a line. And there are no plans to do so anytime soon.

Acoustic neuroma, vestibular schwanomma.
Phonak, Oticon, Signia, Starkey BiCROSes are all fine. A will give you access to your poor side so that you don’t have to crane your neck around, but they aren’t stars in noise, which is a situation that can be brutal when you are working with just one ear–often individuals in this situation should be looking at remote mic accessories for support. Phonak falls down on the battery life but it benefits from the Roger On. I’ve heard that a fair number of previous users have flipped over to the Sphere+Roger, but BiCROS+Roger is pretty good. Starkey has the table mic, so that might be a consideration.
BiCROSes aren’t obscolete technology, what a weird things to say.

Just got phonak sphere today.
Any idea how to turn on spheric mode from the app?
I dont see any option ![]()

This week I received my first ’s. We’re probably similar in that I absolutely needed bicros. I went with Signia 7IX BCT bicross. So far I like them. I can hear my wife while driving in the car on my bad side. I can hear way better in noise situations. Dam Chicita bugs are loud. So is a standing #1. ![]()
I can hear my feet sliding through grass. Amazing.

You should ask the to give you a manual program. I asked for “Speech in noise” and “Spheric speech in noise” programs. If you’d like to make your own custom program and have sphere I90’s, go to a very loud place. The latest places to trip it where I don’t care is in front of an air conditioner and the hand dryer in the restroom. When in noise high enough to activate spherical mode, typically about 70db, go into myphonak app, hit the automatic line, and then the “adjust” button at the bottom. It should tell you spherical speech in noise at the top. Now “save as new” button… I will trust you can take it from there.

On Phonak Infinio Sphere you could create a manual “Spheric Speech in loud noise” programm by using the MyPhonak App. In his video this guy explaining how to do it. [I Used the Phonak Audeo SPHERE Infinio Hearing Aid for One MONTH...]

I am running a loud vacuum cleaner next to me in a small room, but i still do not see the “adjust program” appear under automatic mode. And when saving it shows as “speech in clam” or “speech in noise” as profile. The video above shows in Android, not there if there is any difference.
I mean why is this a difficult thing to begin with!
I would imagine a dedicated option to enable this, its not we have insane people using , and not understanding effort vs power relationship.
