Hello to everyone !

I have a pair of Phonak Audeo M50 R purchased in 2019.
The battery has stopped charging on the right hand side so I thought it would be easy to get both batteries replaced with new ones. But…no,no,no, not so easy !!!
Phonak Canada refuse to change them. Phonak in France and Switzerland will change them but only give a 6 month guarantee for $600 the pair. My question why is the replacement battery only guaranteed for 6 months when the original was guaranteed for 4 years.
Does Phonak replace the original battery with a battery with a shorter life ?

Any advice or help would be much appreciated.

Even if you get batteries replaced during the ’s warranty period, they are only guaranteed to the end of the original warranty. In your case the batteries should be good for a few more years. Have you considered battery replacement?

No don’t go there, it’s a real hassle and for those older models better to just find another set, new or used, hopefully this will steer you away from rechargeable, go disposal if possible.

How to replace battery in Phonak Audeo M-50R

@Anthony - Did you try a different charger? Maybe the right-sided charging port or contact points are bad. It would really suck to go to a lot of trouble and expense only to find out it was the charger!

@Patrick…yes I agree…I will try putting the right into the left socket and see what happens.
On another subject I have been checking HA stores in France and Switzerland. They will all change the batteries for approx $520 but only one store will give me a 4 year guarantee on the replacement batteries, all the others will only offer me a 6 month guarantee. Do you have any information on guarantees for replacement batteries ?

Sorry, Anthony, I’m afraid I don’t. I’ve had my just over a month. They’re rechargeable, but still under warranty. If the batteries failed to charge, I expect my audiologist would swap the HAs entirely when they are this new.

I’m not sure whether the right charging points will align properly in the left port, but they might. If your HAs have blinking lights while charging, that should confirm charging status. You should also make sure the contact points on the HAs and the charger are all clean.

If it is indeed battery failure, I think if it were me I would choose the place with the 4-year warranty.

For now, disposable battery has too low power, they’re maximum 1.45V, which isn’t enough for the newest features. So, there is a reasons and trade-offs. Rechargeables has 3.7-3.9 V.

Try this " To reset a Phonak Audeo hearing aid, you need to press and hold the lower part of the multi-function button for at least 15 seconds. There’s no visual or audible indicator to signal the reset, according to Phonak3. After holding the button, place the hearing aid in its charger until the indicator light blinks green.I have the same problem .This works for me. When you put into charger (after reset) be patient for at least 1 minute.

They could use/develop more efficient chips, develop new battery options, or use industry standard easy to replace li-ion batteries which Demant tried and abandoned. They could still offer disposable options as evidence by Resound Vivia. The industry does not seem to like anything that does not hold the patient hostage to the audiologist and manufacturer at purchase and thereafter. So much for right to repair.

I had a battery replaced on my KS10, which was sent by Costco to Sonova for repair out of warranty, I paid £120 for one aid, I believe in the US the charge is $125. I was only given a 90 day warranty on the aid. I may be wrong here but, the battery has a 12 month warranty. So if the battery expired within 4 to 12 months, I would still have to pay for a further replacement.

Make sure that the co tact poknts on the are clean before you do anything expensive. Just give them a wipe is enough.

Ah, the relationship between warranty on parts and warranty on labor is a sneaky one, when the repair as a whole involves mismatched time frames! Stuff like that frustrates me. I understand it, but it’s still frustrating.

I’m wondering when you had your hearing tested and how well you hear.

I have Paradise hearing aids a model newer than you. Then Lumity came along. And now the Sphere something hearing aids those are all Phonak.

My Paradise have rechargeable batteries. I hated them. I got replacement hearing aids with new batteries and charger. I’m very grateful. They work.

Point is…i think you can get better newer used hearing aids for less money than those batteries.

I live about an 8 minute drive from Phonak Canada. Near Toronto Airport. They helped me through my care giver. They won’t talk to me direct.

I’ll keep mine going as long as I can. But heck hearing aids depreciate faster than a car. And mine shut me down when they don’t work.
