Thanks. Yes the Viron are sold by Bernafon but these appear to be an older version, maybe Scrivens trying to clear them out I have been trying power domes but not found any difference, other than no squealing feedback when passing a hand near them.
I’m a veteran and have a claim in for hearing loss against the MOD. If I do get any money (been a very long wait so far) I’ll be splashing out on some top of the range
That’s interesting, no occlusion or trouble retaining the power domes? If so then no reason to change.
Logic says they should be louder as you normally have to reset the software to allow for the change, but not sure about the working of Target. @tenkan am I correct about this?
Yes that would normally be the case, should notice a difference as a little bit more gain is added, but I’d go for custom molds with the correct sized vent if possible.
Oh that’s most unfortunate, I’m guessing it’s the programming (because NHS lock their ) they won’t do, the custom molds should be no problem tho, but anyways I’d look at other options because you’ll get some good deals out there, Costco comes to mind first premium models for the best price anywhere, plus there’s always projects if your interested in that area.
unfortunately my very local hearing shop won’t do custom molds for NHS HAs, they won’t touch them.
@tenkan It’s a UK policy with private Audiologists in the UK. I have an Audiologist that has made 3 pairs of deep moulds, but I showed her that the aids they’re going on were bought off Ebay, not NHS. She did ask.
I shall give it a try, thanks Not sure about wider tubes, have a few boxes the NHS gave me over the years will have a dig through. Scrivens don’t give tubes, you’re expected to go in and they’ll change out domes etc.
Yeah this is really unacceptable, I can’t understand the reasoning, having molds made is crucial for your hearing, as @PeterH mentioned you don’t even need to mention NHS as you can fit the moulds/tubes to any fitted with a ear hook, in fact you don’t even need to own any HAs and still get them made, it’s totally weird whats going on in the UK in this regard.
On Tuesday I had a call from Hidden Hearing, a follow up they said come get an ear health test it’s free. Happened to be available so seen their audiologist yesterday afternoon. It was basically their office seeing that the audiologist they’d sent out had a spare slot so thought they’d try and push a sale. The audiologist was actually very good, open and honest when I told him I didn’t want another hearing test. He did offer advice though. Said private companies aren’t interested in offering hearing molds outside of with as there is no money in it for them, with my loss they wouldn’t help anyway. Also said that power domes wouldn’t help me either as I can hear low frequency and they block them out, the best domes are the ones I have, vented/open ones which allow low frequencies in but high frequency is coming through the HAs.
Overall a poor attempt by Hidden Hearing to boost sales (they’re very expensive and are owned by Oticon) but a very honest audiologist who actually gave me useful, free, advice.

Wow, this statement doesn’t run true in South Cumbria.
There are two, nearby, private Audiologists who have changed their business models in the last 2 years. They will both supply and fit moulds, without the purchase of hearing aids. The 2nd one will work on any hearing aids now (not including NHS). I recently got 3 pairs of custom moulds from them, after a wax removal appointment.
I’m sure they’d still prefer supplying and fitting, but firms like Wholesale Hearing, may be forcing this change in the UK.
In another note, I tried my local boots for moulds first, but on looking at my , he clearly thought my was my hearing loss. Huge red flag.
Because my hearing really impacts me for phone calls I bought the Bernafon SoundClip-A. Had it two days and what an enormous difference it’s made, I can hear clearly now, in both ears
Bit of an update. I decided to bite the bullet and go private, looked at Oticon Intent 1 and Phonak Sphere i90 ultra (since I’m spending money I wanted the best). Decided on the Phonak and went to my very local Audiologist, checked wholsale hearing and audiological science. I was nervous about the online sellers, although Audiological science has High street places. Having heard the service my local audiologist offered with follow up appointments, checks every six months and 5 year warranty I was keen but baulked at the price. They offered a price match, I sent them audiological science link and they’ve matched it! Phew! That was a big saving, just waiting for fitting appointment now.
