Myphonac app and Motorola cell phone Pairing!

Greetings folks it’s been quite a while since I’ve been here publishing in the forum and whining about some problem or another but here we go.

I’m wondering if anyone out there that uses Target to program and has infinio 90 sphere AIDS and uses a Motorola edge 2023 cell phone to pair the myphonak app to their phone and who may have just recently upgraded to Android 15 is having real difficulties in the programming and pairing proces?

When one goes to pair a sphere hearing aid you now have to do two separate pairings. The first one pairs sphere to your cell phone and the second pairing independent of the first pairing is to pair the my phonak app to the cell phone. It’s easy to understand but with my setup it’s impossible to achieve with the Motorola phone dated 2023 .

I’ve used that phone to pair at least three sets of phonak hearing aids along the way but I’m blocked totally now trying to get access to the my phonak app for all its extraordinary flexibility.

Dammed if I know what to do At this point other than to just go out and buy a new cell phone that is compatible with the phonak my app.

I’m feeling you, w.macneill. I’ve always had a Motorola cell phone (except for a brief foray into the world of Samsung, and I hated the Samsung cell phone when I had it). I’m not budgeting for an iPhone, either. So in my current investigation, I’m curious to find out exactly what I’ll be losing out on, and whether that’s a deal breaker, if I choose to stay with my Motorola.

My wife has Infinio 90 Spheres, and we have been unable to get the Phonak app to pair with her Motorola G Power 2024. The phone came originally with Android 14, but was upgraded to 15. The Phonak app works with the Spheres when using a much older Moto phone with lower Android level. On the new phone, the regular Bluetooth connection works (allowing media connection), but the Bluetooth LE links for controlling the hearing aids are totally broken. My guess is that it has to do with a rewrite of the Bluetooth LE code going from Android 14 to 15 that is somehow not compatible with the Phonak app.

Strangely, my own I90 Audeo hearing aides DO work with my phone, which is identical to my wife’s. But I may have set up the Bluetooth pairing before I did the Android 15 upgrade. I can’t seem to pair my phone to my wife’s Spheres, but I don’t want to mess with that too much because I don’t want to chance breaking my own pairing with the Audeos.

I wrote to Phonak support about this, and suggested the Android14/15 issue, but all I got back was a vague reply about the Phonak app not working with a lot of Motorola phones. No promises to try to fix it.

Unfortunately, it’s not possible to downgrade the phone Android level back to 14.

Can you tell us how you tried to do the pairing ? That information can help us give you information

Turned on myPhonak app, powered Spheres to initiate pairing. Never connected. Tried every possible reset, including Bluetooth factory reset, deleting app, rebooting phone, reinstalling app. Trying myPhonak on older Motorola phone with android 11, works right away. And yes, the pairing to old phone was deleted before trying to pair to new phone. On new phone, standard Bluetooth for streaming can be set from Bluetooth Settings, not using myPhonak, and streaming media works. But the two Bluetooth LE links are not being made, so no control of the Spheres.

As an update to this effort, I just tried pairing the same phone (Moto G Power 2024, Android 15) with my wife’s older Phonak I90 Aureos, and they connected right away! There is clearly a compatibility issue with the Spheres (and/or the myPhonak app), and Android 15.

I have been using Phonak i70 for 3 years with no problem with Motorola Edge 40 which was on Android 14 and later 15. Now on android 15 trialling Sphere 90 and no connection to the app although can stream calls. Can connect either right or left aid to phone but not both.

Like initial writer dislike Samsung. Has anybody tried Moto Edge 17 (Fusion) with the Sphere aids.

Further note… Looking at Phonak’s compatibility list, only Samsung and Pixel appear to be fully compatible with the Phonak app.

Yes so any Android phone running 8.0 or later, we’re up to OS 16 which is the one to get as you can control directly from the phone without the App
