Ah! Ok.
I just ordered a pair of the “new” Ultras. Will be interesting what I see in Target when I get them setup.

Yes its a bit strange this, you’d think the “Ultra” would show after the firmware update.

It sounds like you can still disconnect the at the iOS system level if you want to though? The bluetooth toggle in the iOS control center is how I mainly force-disconnect my HAs when I don’t want them streaming from my phone. Toggling the bluetooth icon only disconnects things for 24hrs (some devices excluded). This is by design and also why it doesn’t persist across a phone reboot.

If you look at the Phonak website, “Ultra” is always shown in parentheses. I think the naming is just a marketing strategy, and I would imagine many providers will actually offer this upgrade to existing Infinio users for a price. Hardware-wise, the only different thing seems to be new “EasyGuard” dome, which is not an option of course if you have custom earmolds anyway. That being said, I am very curious about the boasted improvements, but I will have to wait until my provider decides to offer the upgrade (I am told it will probably happen in January). I have the Target software (thanks @tenkan
), but I prefer to wait until the firmware upgrade is done by the provider before I do any . I’ll certainly keep my eyes peeled on the forum though ![]()

Before this last update, the previous one was available via the phone app, no need to go to the audiologist or use Target. I don’t know if that will be the case with this update.
A new video released March 20 on the Phonak Youtube Channel shows how firmware updates for the Infinio and Lumity hearing aids are now possible with the My Phonak app. Correct me if I am wrong, but I think this is a newly enabled feature.

Dr Cliff has told that this is massive update hence necessity of Target software and Noahlink Wireless. I see/hear? differences and I think this could be true.

That would be shocking, when it’s free at source.

The point I was trying to make was the increases of G80 using Adaptive Phonak Digital Contrast after installing the new software. I can confirm that the same is true for Adaptive Phonak Digital.
I apologize for the confusion of the SoundRecover ON/OFF charts - Sound Recover deactivation had no effect on the gains
My assumption is Phonak’s two proprietary algorithms changed with this update. Would this update effect the programming of using or v5.0a? I have no clue.
Immediately TV and radio sounded much different, and not in a good way. As I type this, I am listening to TV and fine tuning.

I’ve updated Target, but my highest aids are Lumity, but I’ve re-done “Feedback/Real ear” with 5 of my 6 pairs of Phonaks (Marvel to Infinio). Maybe there were no real changes, but some do sound different??
One thing I did notice was that there’s an update for the “Media Files”.
The App looks no different (Android).

This is an interesting thought that makes some sense.

I upgraded my Sphere I70s a few hours ago, and indeed they sound very different now.
Everything sounds a lot louder. My own voice sounds different. Not bad though. It’s possible that the regular non-spheric noise suppression works better now, but I feel it’s too early to tell. The only data point I have so far was driving while listing to someone talking on the radio. Autosense correctly switched to ‘Speech in Car’, but I experienced more high frequency noise than before. I changed ‘Noise Reduction’ in the App to the maximum. It did what it was supposed to do: reducing the noise without compromising the audibility of the speaker on the radio.
Previously, I always felt that increasing the regular noise reduction was very detrimental to speech comprehension, so maybe this is an improvement. But again, it’s too early to tell. I haven’t yet been in a situation where I used Spheric mode.
I think audiologists and other will hate Phonak for this upgrade. It wouldn’t surprise me if it causes them a lot of extra work doing adjustments, etc.
Also, I had to re-install the Phonak app on my iPhone to reconnect with the after the upgrade.

I’m confused about what I’ve read here and other platforms. The Infinio Sphere and Infinio Ultra are two different hearing aids, correct? I’m guessing the current firmware gives the Infinio Sphere the same features that Infinio Ultra has. But why would the Infinio Sphere hearing aid be renamed after firmware upgrade? Wouldn’t that just make things more confusing? After all it is still Infinio Sphere regardless of what version firmware it has.

That Dr. Cliff video posted earlier by @firenzel is indeed stating that there’s no new hardware whatsoever, this just a firmware/software update, so all Infinio compatible with this are being rebranded “Ultra”. I believe Phonak should be officially confirming this to avoid further confusion. I was thinking that this whole operation was probably planned ahead, and seeing this kind of improvements made available just with a firmware/software update means that the original release last year was rushed.
Edit: I asked the question under the Phonak Linkedin post presenting Infinio Ultra. Let’s see what happens ![]()

Hi - just got my month-old Spheres upgraded to the new version. I have a question: Am I supposed to delete the 3 old Bluetooth devices and re-pair? Or maybe just delete the LE… devices? Or should I just leave well enough alone?
BTW, I have one possibly useful tip, at least for Android users: After the upgrade, my MyPhonak app still showed the old firmware version until I went into settings/apps and manually closed MyPhonak. When I went back into the app, it showed the new version. (I’ve noticed similar issues at other times - apparently the app doesn’t always refresh itself automatically, so a manual app restart is called for.)

Yeah so the onus was on Phonak to “not confuse” but unfortunately the marketing department just couldn’t help themselves! but they are still two different models, sphere and Ultra, my comment was why the Infinio didn’t get the name change, obviously if you buy new Ultra Infinio both target and App will show it as just that?

Good question, but if everything is still working as it should I wouldn’t worry, but no harm in removing and repairing, I think someone mentioned you don’t get the 3 different ones now.

No.
The long answer is - maybe. with Target 11.1 there may be tweaks to Adaptive Phonak Digital. I personally found slight changes in voices. I ran the Feedback & Gain Measurement again and that seemed to fix it. YMMV.
