New Jabra BTE or Phonak Sphere RIC

I have been wearing KS10 hearing aids for 4 years. I am having a lot of trouble hearing speech and especially speech in noise. I had my hearing retested yesterday and she said there was very little change. I am looking for something to improve my hearing and the Costco girl offered up the Jabra Enhance Max which just came out. It is the equivalent of the Resound Enzo IA. I have never worn a BTE and with my hearing loss wonder if it is the best option of could I get better results with the Phonak Sphere aids. Word recognition it 12% right ear and 52% left ear. Thanks.

This is interesting - I didn’t know that Costco sold . I checked and they do! (Jabras BTEs, and ).
It seems like you’re barely within the fitting range of the Sphere UP (see below). If the KS10 worked for you, the Sphere might be a good option. I’m not very knowledgeable about BTEs, so take my comment with a grain of salt.

No I have not. I am not saying never but as bad as my hearing is, hearing aids still do a pretty good job for me now. Right now I may try the ’s and if I don’t like them I’ll return them. With all of the glowing reviews of the Spheres I really wanted to go that route but I didn’t know if they had enough power.

What’s your ? If it doesn’t differ much from your better ear you probably don’t get much benefits from the in the poorer side.

The UP receiver will be quite on the edge. They would fit if you have average or slightly less than average volume of ear canal, but large enough to fit large receiver physically.

Which you try? Newest Resound Enzo?

I went in to get my mold impressions today. The fitter was very excited because I was the first to purchase the new aids. She said they just got them at Costco a couple of days ago. My wife was worried because I was the first but I said they want to spend more time to get them right.

I don’t memorized the special table, but depending on how many words you have to repeat during test, 72% may be not too different than 52% (maybe tomorrow I will insert a screen which explain that thing). I think @Neville has better knowledge about it.

That said, the human brain is a fantastic pattern detector. The OP could just wear only the left for a while and see if they notice much difference in speech comprehension (as opposed to balance, loudness, or environmental awareness).

But yes, would be the option to maximize outcomes given that it can turn 12% into 80% WRS.
