Yeah that’s interesting, I don’t know why, you could make a new client first and then just try connection without adding any input, as in let Genie2 find the intent, but what happens if you make another OPN client (using your old OPN settings) and then try connecting the intent to that client?
If I make a OPN client trying to connect the intent it will most likely say assumed hearing aids not found.
I DID make a new client with intent 1, basic no input, totally default. I connect my trial demoflex intent 1 to that profile and like I said, use data from hearing aids was greyed out. ONLY start new session.
My guess would be, trial demo aids have a write only, no read out, to avoid customers form going to another audi and “steal” the fitting data and get a better price. Like a safety feature for the audi.
They are “locked” to that audi, no read out.
Is that a thing? I only did with a bought pair of OPNs, already mine with legit serial number, no trial.
Again never heard of it, so could well be the case of locked out, but at least you get the option to start a new fitting so not completely “locked out” looks like you’ll just have to miss this opportunity to copy, bummer..
I came across your post from November 2025, where you described being unable to read the existing fitting data from your Oticon Intent 1 DemoFlex hearing aids using Genie 2.
I'm currently experiencing almost exactly the same problem with a pair of Oticon Reveal 1 DemoFlex hearing aids, and I'm hoping that you or someone else in the forum may have found an explanation or solution by now.
My setup
Software: Oticon Genie 2, version 2026.2
Programming interface: Noahlink Wireless
Hearing aids: Two Oticon Reveal 1 DemoFlex devices, originally programmed and individually fitted by a different hearing care professional
Both hearing aids are correctly identified as "Reveal 1 DemoFlex" and connect without any issues.
The "Use hearing aid data" option is grayed out.
The only available option is "Start new fitting".
Other regular Oticon hearing aids can be read and adjusted without any problems using exactly the same hardware and software setup.
Both DemoFlex devices are currently set to technology level 1.
The fitting computer has a working internet connection.
Additional observations and troubleshooting attempts
1. DemoFlex technology levels
Under "Firmware Tools → DemoFlex", technology level 1 is displayed as the currently active level.
I'm not entirely sure whether technology levels 2, 3, and 4 were actually selectable. If I remember correctly, I may have been able to select level 2, but nothing appeared to change afterward.
However, I can't remember whether I also clicked the "Apply" button to confirm the change. Therefore, I don't want to claim that switching technology levels is definitely blocked.
2. Resetting the manual hearing aid selection
Another hearing care professional, who was not the person who originally fitted these devices, suggested the following workaround:
Go back to the manual hearing aid selection screen in Genie 2, set the selected hearing aids to "None", and then run a new automatic device search.
In this section, Genie 2 first lets you select the hearing aid family (such as More, Intent, or Reveal), followed by the specific model or form factor (such as miniRITE R or ) for the left and right hearing aids.
I was able to change the model selections for the left and right sides, including setting them to "None". However, I couldn't reset the overall hearing aid family selection to "None".
Running another device search did not resolve the original issue.
My theory about the possible technical cause
I've been wondering whether this behavior might be related to the way Oticon DemoFlex hearing aids handle fitting data.
Here's my reasoning:
During the initial fitting of a DemoFlex device, certain information about the device configuration, selected technology level, and individual gain settings or fitting parameters may be stored in the corresponding Genie 2 or Noah fitting session.
It's possible that this session information is required to continue working with an existing fitting later on.
I'm not suggesting that the hearing aids are necessarily locked to a specific computer or hardware installation.
Rather, I'm wondering whether Genie 2 can only fully retrieve or reconstruct certain fitting parameters from DemoFlex devices when the original fitting session is available in the database or has been imported.
Another possibility is that the special DemoFlex firmware allows a completely new fitting but restricts the direct retrieval and modification of an existing fitting.
Either explanation might account for why Genie 2 recognizes and connects to both devices without any problems and allows a new fitting, while the option to use the settings already stored in the hearing aids remains disabled.
There might also be a connection between this behavior and the ability to switch DemoFlex technology levels while preserving or restoring the individual fitting.
I want to emphasize that these are only technical hypotheses. I have no confirmation that Oticon intentionally implemented such a restriction, and there may be an entirely different explanation.
What I'm trying to accomplish
Unfortunately, I don't have access to the original fitting session from the hearing care professional who initially programmed these devices.
The current settings actually work quite well. I only want to make a few minor adjustments without losing the existing individualized fitting.
Starting a completely new fitting might overwrite the current settings, which is exactly what I'm trying to avoid.
My questions for Gerhard and the forum
Did you ever find out why Genie 2 couldn't read the existing fitting settings from your DemoFlex hearing aids?
Is there any known requirement for DemoFlex devices to have access to the original Genie 2 or Noah fitting session before an existing fitting can be modified?
Could this instead be a limitation of the DemoFlex firmware that prevents reading the stored fitting parameters directly from the devices?
Has anyone found a way to retrieve and modify the existing settings without access to the original fitting session?
Could this behavior also be related to switching between DemoFlex technology levels?
Has anyone successfully resolved this issue and, if so, what exact steps worked?
I'd really appreciate any feedback, since your original problem seems almost identical to what I'm experiencing now.
Perhaps other forum members, including hearing care professionals familiar with Oticon DemoFlex devices, have encountered this behavior and can shed some light on what's actually happening.
You have "demo" which can obviously be programmed and adjusted, when you connect you get the pop up offering to copy from or database, can't see why you don't just make a new client and copy and then make the adjustments you want, this can be done with other brands, of course your clinic will notice this but I wouldn't worry to much about it.
