Oticon Reals - fluttering sound only when streaming TV

Dear all, I think this issue has been discussed here a couple of times. I have Oticon Real hearing aids. As indicated in the subject line I frequently experience an annoying fluttering/wrabling/tremolo sound ONLY when using the TV adapter to watch TV, even when the hearing aid microphones are completely muted. For normal listening in various environments I do not have this issue at all. The feedback manager is currently set to normal in all programs. Could this TV streaming issue be related to the feedback managment and would setting the feedback manager to low mitigate it? Many thanks and kind regards, Oliver

Is it only with the TV adapter and not phone? If so, look to see if the power cord and audio cable have become crossed in a way that is generating interference. Just move them apart a bit and see if the problem goes away. If this is your issue there might be better shielded cables but I have no specific suggestions.

if your microphones are muted there can’t be any feedback.

so are you using toslink? analog? something might be wrong with cables or adapter.

Thank you for your answers. I experience the problem only with the TV adapter and not when phoning. The TV adapter is connected via the headphone socket - tosalink does not work with my old TV. I checked the position of the power cord and the cables and changed that a bit. Unfortunately the issues persists.

I’ve heard patients complain about a fluttering sound - it’s the feedback manager. It can be turned down or off, depending on what level of tech you have. I don’t know why you would only hear it when watching TV though! Ask your audiologist; maybe they can contact Oticon if they can’t figure it out.

I think the problem was not there in the beginning. I have just unplugged and reconnected the cables and the power cord, but I am not sure whether this has solved the problem. Maybe I need a new TV, mine is at least 15 years old.

do you have another way of testing a different device with the headphone plug? this might be your old tv and old headphone jack being wonky.

Yes, the fluttering is also there when the mics are muted. Was it you, Gerhard, who gave me the advice to mute the mics in the other German-speaking forum? I initally thought that muting the mics helped, but this was unfortunately not the case.

That’s why I said it didn’t make sense. The only time I’ve heard of fluttering is when the feedback manager is running. I didn’t say that was the issue here.
