I have a Roger ON IN that has the known error of the switch not turning off the power. I tried to get it returned to Phonak, but no luck and Phonak is famous for not responding to end users. I think the place where I bought it is no longer in business.

There is ample info on the net to describe the problem and fix. I would repair this myself but don’t have the tools or hands for this minture work. Is there a hearing aid reapair place that might be able to do this?

A few of us have run into a snag with our Roger On power switches not functioning. Here are two known issues and some suggestions on how to at least turn off your broken Roger ON.

  1. The plastic sliding On/Off switch might have slipped off (disconnected) from the internal sliding switch soldered to the circuit board.

May I suggest a search of the forum for repair suggestions and discussions as this is a common issue. Sorry, but my search skills aren’t the best.

  1. The internal sliding switch might have failed too. This happened on my Roger. I have the Roger On IN with two 03 receiver licenses, so I prefer to keep the battery charged fearing a flat battery might mess up my licenses.

First, charge the Roger On with the internal switch in any position.

When fully charged disconnect the Roger from the charger. Now - Make sure the Roger is switched on, then press and hold the connect button on the back and simultaneously switch off the power button. If you do this successfully you’ll see an airplane icon at the top of the screen.

It sounds crazy since the sliding On/Off switch no longer functions, but for some reason this Shipping Mode method usually works for me?

This should turn off the power switch completely. To get the device out of shipping mode, switch it on, then hold the connect and center buttons for a second or two until you see it boot up. This might break the Bluetooth pairing to the myRogerMic app for some reason, but the hearing aids should still be connected.

It might take a few tries to turn off the Roger On, but I’ve been able to use this technique about six times over the past year, even though the On-Off switch has failed in the On position.

Good Luck,

David

OK, AUGH! How annoying is that? I also have the Roger ON IN, so I know the power switch you refer to on the side of the portable mic unit, right?

If it’s any comfort to you, I stabbed my ON IN to death trying to xfer a license off of one pair of aids in order to put it onto a different pair. I must’ve pressed the pin I used under that belt clip on the back of the remote mic too hard. I think my ON IN was still under warranty, so my audi sent it in to Phonak and I got a new unit to replace it.

Have you actually contacted Phonak Tech Support at (800) 679-4871? Give them the serial number on your mic and see if they’d take it back for repair or replacement. If it isn’t under warranty anymore you may be out of luck. Let us know what course of action you’ll take! GOOD LUCK.

Thanks for the contact info on Phonak tech support! It’s great to know it’s available, but it’s not needed for me since I got my Roger On In from eBay a while back to give it a shot.

I get my hearing aids from the . After the switch didn’t work, I asked the VA for a Roger ON.

I was planning to try the Roger On and then donate it after a quick test to see if it was helpful, knowing it would be “free for the asking” if I liked it.

My old Roger On In probably doesn’t have much time left because it’s taking longer (more tries) to get it back to Shipping Mode after each charge.

I appreciate the help. Phonak indicates the Roger ON was assigned to Advanced Bionics who makes implants. The do not show a sale. So, Phonak does not deal with users, just their distributors.

I was looking for someone who could repair it out of warranty as I don’t have the dexterity or the tools for job. I will try the shipping mode.

Edited

I just upgraded the firmware using Roger Upgrader. I then removed the licenses and then installed them.Crazy thing is the switch is working now. I don’t know for how long. Oops, not for long; back to not working.

I wish Phonak would move away from all this license and Bluetooth they use and adopt the new with all their devices.

I DO TOO. They must’ve come up with the single pair of aids for each mic as a profit-driven strategy instead of putting the customer first. I have 3 other pairs of aids that should be usable with a Roger ON IN, but that’s not easy to make happen for V1 and V2

Thanks, Lloyds was exactly the name I was looking for. I will call them next week and let the forum know what they say. It is not complicated for people who have the tools and dexterity to fix the switch.

I sent the Roger On to Lloyds, but they declined to repair it. I may try the repair but need some small Tork screwdrivers.
