Going back to Costco for adjustment what should I ask?

I have Sennheiser after from Costco after upgrading from Marvel. The fit is good. I have more power but I still have trouble with speech in noise. Also they work well with my Android phone and the TV connector. The easy line remote app does not offer any more help with speech in noise than the automatic setting. I talked to a hearing aid employee at Costco and he said they could make an adjustment with noise cancellation and more narrow directional focus. Would this be a wise thing to do or would I loose too much of the ambient sounds around me? Would a new app on the phone through Easy Line Remote be helpful? It could be that I have just reached the limit of what is possible with these hearing aids and with my hearing loss. I am not a d.i.y.er.

Depending on if your main issue is with one on one conversations or small groups I’d go on EBay and get either a used PartnerMic (for one on one) or Roger On In (V2 or V3) (for small group conversations) They will likely do better than any adjustment they can make on your hearing aids.

The items are so much less expensive used on EBay than new that it’s affordable to replace if they break.

Maybe keep a log of the parts of speech with which you struggle. Bring that with you to your appt. Give them something to chew on.

To add to Whitehat, keep a list or diary of situations/ locations where you struggle.

I also agree the Roger remote mics will help the most. I love my Roger On which works as a mic for one on one and for speakers, tour guides, friend who is soft spoken - and as a table mic. Your Audi will need to turn on the receivers in your hearing aids. Get a On In if you can in case, as it provides Licenced for additional receivers.

I’m not sure what you’re talking about Audi needing to turn on the Roger receivers in the hearing aids. If you get a Roger On iN installing receiver licences is pretty simple for the user. No equipment needed. If one goes with a non iN version it’s much messier and involves buying Roger X receivers and equipment to transfer the licenses.

Update. I went to Costco and the hearing aid specialist spent at least 20 minutes working on the hearing aid. I told him I am in group settings with people talking and laughing at other tables and music on in the background. Also I am around people who talk fast sometimes and often have accents different from mine. He made some adjustments and checked to see if the easy remote app was working. I noticed some difference right away at Costco. The background noise faded a bit and I could hear his voice more clearly. Sometimes a slight adjustment makes a difference.

Thanks for the tip about the Rober On. I plan to order the iN version from ebay.

Make sure you get a Roger On iN, preferably version V2 or V3. If you get a non iN version you’ll be creating a lot of headaches for yourself. Details matter.

Yes, I looked on ebay and there are iN versions V2 or V3 available. What is interesting some of the Rogers are “parts only” and some are complete. Even though they are several hundred dollars it is much cheaper than the $1,000+ I had been quoted for a new one. I am looking forward to using this device and will need to adjust to having all this equipment.

My Roger On arrived and I will try it with the big group of relatives over Thanksgiving. I just hope they don’t have the TV blasting in the background or the music on loud. One relative thinks it is funny when I don’t hear things. Not sure why it is amusing to her.

My sister used to tease me a LOT as kids when I couldn’t hear as well as her. Flash forward 30 years, and SHE was wearing hearing aids, too, but couldn’t afford ones as nice as mine. So, um, shoe on OTHER foot, but I’m MUCH to aware of folks to ever make fun of them. That strikes me as so sad. Like a very bad upbringing, combined with insecurity, tad of psychopath (“person who exhibits traits such as a lack of empathy, manipulative behavior, and often engages in antisocial actions without remorse”) and projecting all that negative stuff onto someone else without even caring how that person would feel.

OK. NOTE that the Roger ON IN V3 allows you to pair + connect to MULTIPLE hearing aids! The V2 (which I have TWO redundant pairs of) only allows you to pair + connect to ONE pair of aids. So if you have backup aids, you will NOT be able to use them with the Roger ON IN V2 unless you illegitimately xfer the license to the other pair. Take it from me, you can stab the dang mic to death doing that. Been there. Done that.

You can connect to as many aids with any version Roger on as have receiver licenses. With v2 in, it only comes with one pair of licenses, but that can be reset for more licenses in the Roger updater app.

Interesting. Is that the same as myRoger app? Cuz I’d had that on my phone a couple years ago but got ZERO use out of it. It could never even find the ONE of TWO Roger V2 mics licensed to the ONE of TWO Phonak rechargeable aids I had licensed with it. Augh.

AH!!! That makes me feel better, NOT so stooopid. I’m not a Windoze kinda gal. More like Macable.

I’m using iPhone and the myroger app works very well. I also have the original On, but friend with Phonak Lumity and me with Paradise could use just his On together at restaurants. This didn’t work as well with my husband as he has less hearing loss and found the On set up for me to be too loud. I haven’t tried the On as yet with my brand new Spheres. Just the hearing aids were enough for Thanksgiving dinner!!

I appreciate that insight! I tried both the Roger V2 mic, and then just putting my Lumity Life 312 aids into “Speech in Loud Noise” at a local restaurant. Oddly … the dedicated program won over the Roger! I think sound quality was an issue (tinny, flat, irritatingly harsh Roger), so for now I just use my V2 to stream TV and listen to speakerphone calls with family. Now THAT’s a beautiful use for the mic. I can leave the room and still hear the conversation clear as a bell. :grinning_face:
