Hearing Aids Numbers in Sales

So much in the hearing aid manufacturing world is a secret. Wouldn’t it be nice to see or read which aids are being sold (the most) and get an actual number count from year to year? Like, how many sales does Phonak do (for whatever brand) versus say Starkey, GN Hearing, etc? I understand that some aid manufacturers are private while others are pubic, but sharing such information is important. I’d also like to see what each HA company spends on R&D every year. Alas, none of this will happen even though some of us cough up $2500 plus every few years to purchase a new hearing aid.

Have you tried googling it? A lot of this is not all that secret…

You can also read through the financial reports of all companies except Starkey, which is privately held.

The is one of the largest dispensers of hearing aids, if not THE largest. I gotta think the numbers are fairly representative of the industry in general. (But what do I know? Maybe I’m still dreaming.) Anyway, their numbers for October are posted here26. Hit the link under the word “report” (the two go to the same spreadsheet, I think.) October’s numbers are posted. The contract flipped in November to new product. I’m not sure what all was included. The are grouped by classes ( non-rechargeable, ric rechargeable, custom non-rechargeable, etc) and Sonova rules the BTE and ric spaces. Starkey owns customs handily. (And maybe I was misreading it when I glanced. I didn’t really study it, and what would I know anyway.) i post this link once or twice a year. I find it interesting to browse. The other th8ng I like to look at in the Maine state pricing contract. Gives you a pretty good look at a pretty close to costs pricing for the hearing aids. The costs of the fitters are filtered out. Finding that link is left as an exercise for the interested. :slight_smile: I’ve posted that before several times, too.

I screw up things like this all the time. I miss important parts, or misunderstand some aspect I should have picked up. In my work career, I was able to rely on experts (SMEs) on matters outside my areas of knowledge. So I generally ask for another set of eyes to verify what I think I see, if it is important at all. I know some things. But I don’t claim to be able to wade into areas where I’m not confident. I’d rather say “but what do I know?” and take correction when necessary gently, than make some assertion that gets corrected in an embarrassing way. If I got it right, as you say here, fine! And if not, well, I said, what do I know. Glad someone better than me knows. :slight_smile:

Not at all. The forum members helped me so much getting started with more than 4 years ago. It is an honor to give back and lend a hand. I will still make mistakes. But I hope they are small compared to the assistance provided.
