Xiaomi phones will not pair properly after the Phonak firmware update

I have a Xiaomi Redmi 13 Pro phone and since the Phonak firmware update for my Phonak i90 hearing aids, only the right aid will pair to the app, although I can hear phone calls though both aids. My audiologist got in touch with Phonak support and they told her that they have had lots of reports regarding the problem and that it is due to the Xiaomi Hyper operating system. As matter of interest to prove if Phonak are correct, I downloaded the myPhonak app on my wife’s Samsung phone and both aids paired without any problems. Although my phone is only just a year old, it seems like I will have to bin it and buy a Samsung phone.

What, exactly, is wrong? What are you not seeing, which you expect. Where are you pairing, in os or myphonak app?

I had the same problem with my Motorola Neo Edge 40. After the upgrade, I could pair only one aid in the app. Both left and right would pair depending which one I tried first. But I couldn’t pair the second aid. Also, I couldn’t modify any of the programs in the app. My Motorola was only 12 months old but I ditched it for a Pixel 9A which paired both aids in the app straightaway.

I have done everything possible. Before the firmware update both aids paired with the myPhonak app, but since the update now only the right one will pair to the app.

The Phonak software developers will have tested pairing on iPhones and on standard Android phones, the most popular of which is Samsung. Testing costs $ and so they will not have done tests on phones that use variants of the Android operating system, such as the Chinese Xiaomi, and which are not as popular.

For streaming, you only use one aid, usually right. It sends the sound to the other aid in a different protocol. The other aid’s connection is only for LE communication by the myphonak app to control it. I maybe go a little overboard on things like this where “tried everything and it still isn’t right.” Delete the myphonak app. Delete the BT pairings for the hearing aids, and completely restart the phone. When it starts, download the app, and shut off & restart your aids, Let the app walk you through the pairing. If it still won’t pair, I’d say something is wrong and you should see the audiology office.

Many thanks, but I’ve tried all that. When I went on to the Phonak website and asked which phones are giving problems with the firmware update, one of those is my phone. One of their suggest was trying the myPhonak junior app, which I did yesterday and it worked with both aids pairing to the app.

After I updated myPhonak to the latest version on my Redmi K70, my Phonak P90 and myPhonak encountered the exact same issue. The problem was resolved after I cleared all data of myPhonak.
