All, I currently have Starkey Livio Edge 2400’s, . They were originally fitted in Dec 2020 and rebuilt a couple years ago. I’m very happy with the ITE form factor. I’ve been wearing ’s for probably 20 years now, my original Aud (now passed away) started me with IITC and preferred ITE styles to , and so that’s what I’ve always had.
I’ve tried to keep up with annual hearing tests to chart my decline and keep my HA’s adjusted appropriately (my here is updated with the results from a few weeks ago). At my last visit the topic of new HA’s came up, and the Aud said I should stick with Starkeys because she felt like they were still the best at custom HA’s. So that has me looking at the Omega 24’s.
The price they quoted me is $6995 and that comes with 3 years warranty. I can do one loss/accidental damage claim in that period for $350/device. The $6995 is a “special”, down from $7995, if I lock my plans in before the new year. My health insurance will cover up to $4,000 for HA’s every three years. So I’d be $3,000 out of pocket for these. I’ve tried to find pricing online just to know what the range is that these go for, and have found them for as low as $4995. But, I don’t have much experience shopping around for HA’s and don’t know if that is a realistic price. Regarding the $6995 local price for the Omegas, does that sound about right? Should I try to ask for a discount or price reduction?
There are only two Auds in my town, so not really any competition. I’m in Alaska and the nearest other town is 400 miles away, so not any opportunity for expanding my options easily.
My Starkeys (all of them) in general have served me very well, and these Livios have been the most reliable and trouble-free by far. If I’ve had a receiver die in one of them, it was very early on and I don’t remember it. I’d say my biggest complaint would be the Bluetooth quality. It connects just fine to my iPhone and Mac, but I deal frequently with garbled sound and seemingly weak signal. So I’d be hoping that the Omegas, having a new and different Bluetooth protocol, would be an improvement in that regard.
I’m looking for your thoughts and any input into my situation, and would appreciate your insights. Is the price reasonable, considering? I know the Omega’s are new, but would you expect better Bluetooth experience? Anything I’m missing?
