Upgrade NHS aids

I was supplied with free Otigon Engage aids on December 2022 by the NHS. I then purchased Phonak Audeo L70 in February 2023; the reason being I wanted the Bluetooth facitilities of the Phonak e.g. music transmitted to my aids from my mobile.

There was no difference in the hearing between to two aids when I first got them; now there are some very minor tweeks to the Phonak via my private audiologist.

I have another booking with the private audiologist in January 2026; one problem now arising, with the Phonak, is some “ratteling” in my left ear when playing music, from my mobile.

However I wonder if, after three years I could get upgraded aids, with bluetooth music transmission, from the NHS. Do they now supply such aids if one is a new patient?

Any advice please?

It’s a lot cheaper to change your phone rather then buy some new hearing aids.

You could ask the NHS for Phonak or Danalogic (Danalogic is rebranded ReSound basically) as they both work with Android.

To stream or make calls with the Engage you need to use the Connect clip accessory.

I had used Engage for nearly 2 years, until a couple of months ago when I upgraded to Intents.

I had 2 main reasons for upgrading - better performance in noise and streaming without needing an accessory (as I tended to leave Connect clip after home)

I am very pleased with the Intents.

Performance in noise is much better as I can now understand the speech.

The steaming & hands free calls is a joy to use, especially with LEAudio enabled.
