Starkey DNN 360 only in RIC styles

Hello everyone. This is my first time participating in the forum.

I am about to receive a pair of Starkey Omega 24 hearing aids. At first, I was very excited because I was able to try the EDGE ITC, and I was assured that there was a big leap forward with the Omega thanks to 360. However, after placing the order, my hearing care professional confirmed that this feature is only available for the styles.

I was quite disappointed, because I didn’t notice this in the brochures. You only see it if you pay close attention to the two tiny asterisks in the technology-level table. Could someone tell me why or ITC hearing aids do not include DNN 360? I don’t understand why it doesn’t work if the chip is the same.

devices have limited space for large batteries or extra microphones needed for directional hearing due to size constraints. Even with the same chip, not all features may be enabled.

Having the same CPU doesn’t necessarily make two computers equally powerful (memory, graphic card, hard drive speeds and motherboard designs are important as well)

ITCs have smaller batteries that may not be sufficient to support advanced features like -enhanced sound processing or high-end noise reduction, which consume a lot of power. For ITCs, battery life is crucial.

People favor ITCs mostly for their cosmetic, discreet, and custom-fit nature rather than for having maximum features. It’s a trade-off you make when you want something smaller.

Just the same reason you can’t put a V8 engine on a Fiat 500 or a Mini.

With current technology, ITC/ offer fewer features compared to /, but this is changing. For instance, ITCs now come with Bluetooth capabilities that weren’t available until recently.

Thank you for your answer. I agree with what you expose but, nowhere in the advertising of Starkey Omega, it is implied that the have different features. Phonaks, on the other hand, have different names for different styles of hearing aids. In this way you do not imply that necessarily everyone has the same functions. In my opinion, it’s misleading marketing. At least for people less experienced in hearing aids like me

This is one reason why your charge $$$, he/she is your salesperson and should have educated you on this. Marketing materials are for selling products and generate $$$ for the company.
I mentioned this in other comments:
(1) Always try multiple brands before making the final choice.
(2) Always buy from someone that offers a free trial or a free return period.

If you are about to receive them and feel that Phonaks have better offerings, try them :slight_smile:

I’ll take your advice and ask if I can try out some other brands to compare. Thanks a lot for the tips.

I took your advice and tried out the Phonak Virto R I70s. I liked them so much that I’ve decided to keep them! I went with the I70 mainly because of the price. In Spain, the I90 model was going to cost me 1,400€ more, and I just don’t think the extra features justify that kind of price jump. Thanks a million for the great tip!

I also have to say, I was pretty disappointed with the build quality of the Starkey. The first pair of Omegas they made for me only had one microphone. On top of that, one of them actually cracked the very first time I dropped it while trying to put it in my ear.

The second pair of Omegas seemed better built at first, but after just two weeks, I noticed a crack between the faceplate and the shell on the right hearing aid. It looks like this new ‘stronger’ resin doesn’t bond very well to the faceplate.
