Pain with REM

I finally had the REM done for the second time. I live in Portugal and the first time suspect I was the first person the hcp had done. It resulted in very loud and distorted hearing/ sounds, so much so I had to go back next day and asked for them to be returned to normal. These are Oticon Intents 1, purchased in June. Also, after the aides were returned to pre REM level, I had her give me new receivers because I was getting all kinds of sound distortions, artifacts, and echoes. This did not help.

Yesterday, the trainer person came to our town and repeated the REM. It was so incredibly painful I was jumping out of my chair and could barely stand it. She showed me the tiny plastic wires that were touching my eardrums and said they were very soft. Is this a normal experience? I don’t feel any benefit in my hearing, it feels like my husband is mumbling/ not enuncuating more than ever. TV is very loud. I am having trouble hearing people talking around me in my language class, a small quiet. room with 7 people. The artifact distortion sounds are better, but not completely gone. Any advice appreciated.
