Alternative for the Phonak TV Connector bluetooth

Having the Phonak audeo I90 I also decided to get the TV connector.

Works with having setting of the TV optic on Bypass.
All But Amazon Prime , can’t hear unless I set the TV optic settings to PCM and that’s not an option for my fam listening to the loudspeakers of my denon .

I didn’t buy the denon to only play stereo.where we can listen to dolby surround or DTS (not me when using and TV connector) :blush:

Anyhow…is there someone here who can tell me if it is possible to connect my phonak I90 to a Denon bluetooth? ( having bought one x2800H and waiting for it to arrive) If I can connect to it’s and the denon transmits and the Phonak hears then I’m saved .

If that doesn’t work>> is there a BT transmitter I can connect to RCA on the denon and pair my Phonak I90 to ..and so that it works?

That way I can listen to anything the denon plays.

Hey Martin,
I don’t have experience with Denon devices, but you can try connecting the TV Connector directly to it.
It’s also possible to connect the TV Connector using an analog cable instead of the optical one — you can find this option explained in the TV Connector manual.
If your TV has Bluetooth, you could try connecting your hearing aids directly to it; however, this option tends to consume more battery from the hearing aids.

Thanks.. Will try those options but the TV connecting to the Phonak via is stopping the sound going to the Denon.

I’ll wil dive into a bit the possibility connecting to non optical.. Thought the TV connector had only the optic route..

Does your TVC have the buttons on top?

Does your tv have optical out?

Does your tv have audio outs (3.5mm or RCA)?

Yes, the TVC can take analog 3.5mm which inherently makes it simple stereo.

I’ve seen rca to 3.5mm jack cables. My v1.5 tv connector may have come with one. If the denon will spit plain analog you should easily be in business.

I’ll try the TV own bt see if that works, but curious to see if, when it works, the demon get to keep sound to the loudspeakers too.(hdmi)

Also I’ll try the of the Denon that will arrive this week I hope.

Decided to keep the TV connector but for the sake of getting it working for other sounds inputs also ( amazon, psp5 etc) I’ll keep fiddling and see what works best

The TVC without buttons is not able to accept Dolby sources. Just analog ie. PCM. That could be a factor in your efforts.

You have said bluetooth a couple times. You could connect a bluetooth transmitter to a source and then connect either the ’s or the TVC to a bluetooth receiver. You would experience some lag though. But the TVC can only take a wired input, not bluetooth.

If the tv has bluetooth output then you could cut out the TVC altogether and directly use the HA’s. Generally, bluetooth introduces lag due to the HA’s not supporting aptx.

I use my Sony TV as the TOSLINK source and then use a Digital splitter cable, running one side to my sound system and the other side to a cheap Amazon DAC that has a volume control. I use the DAC’s analog output to feed the Phonak TV adapter. Both systems run independently and have their own volume controls, one for me and one for the family.

My Denon AVR-3500 has a Zone 2 output. I connect the Phonak TV streamer to Zone 2 and that allows the normal Zone 1 speakers to work normally while I get my sound from the TV streamer, and each zone can adjust it’s volume independently.

Hi Jon, I’ve been trying to do the same thing but haven’t tried the Zone 2 on my Denon AXR-890. Do you connect directly from the Zone 2 output into the TV Streamer audio in?

Yes, but I juryrigged mine. I took the Zone 2 HDMI out into a cheap HDMI audio extractor to Optical converter & took that output into my TV Streamer. Can’t remember why I did it that way, but it works. You do have to remember to turn off Zone 2 also when you shut down or the sound source you were using may continue to transmit from the TV streamer.

Thanks, my Zone 2 output is RCA jack analog and has some limitations on what audio programming is output.
I have tried a couple of Bluetooth adapters on other outputs from the Denon but I run into compatibility issues where the adapter wants stereo PCM only. It looks like your connection to the Phonak TV adapter is compatible with digital signals other than PCM, or do you need to set the Zone 2 HDMI output to PCM only?

I don’t have any experience with Denon, but I plug my TV connector into the optical output of my Marantz receiver.

No, my setup works no matter what HDMI output is set to. I initially tried using the headphone output, but on the Denon that cuts off the speaker output. And there is no Optical output on my Denon. I haven’t tried the monitor 2 HDMI output instead of the Zone 2, but it would still be HDMI and need a converter. I guess you could use the Center out to get the main voices with a little of the audio that is mostly sent to the other speakers.

Tried to connect to TV Bluetooth..worked :+1:
Bu there is no option + speakers so when using BT there is no output to the Denon.

So ..no go.
My Denon X2800H DAB is coming next Thursday and has BT which I’ll try .
Chances are it will work as the TV and all the other “normal “BT’s do.
The new Denon also has the option BT + Loudspeakers so that will be it.

Will let you all know when it does (so after next week)

Also..if that doesn’t work this Denon has (as br_aud mentioned ) the RCA out to which I can connect the TV connector to. SO …next week I’ll have lots of options to explore.

Update RCA to tv connector= also no-go as the TV connector only accepts optical and unlike raylock1 the new Denon doesn’t have optical output.
A well…think the BT will work though

I don’t get it then ,or is it the same connector input as to where the optical goes?

Just to be pedantic :slight_smile: those connectors are correct for all TVC versions but your image is the V2 which you said you don’t have.

You can also get an adapter to go from left/right RCA to one stereo 3.5mm. That’s what I have for travel depending on what connections are available.

Can you tell us the make/model of the tv?
