Recommend London clinics/hospitals for audiology? (UK)

Hello

So we’re in the London ISH area and we are struggling

I have mild to moderate high frequency loss,more towards moderate (with suspected hidden loss and ototoxicity)

My family member has moderate to severe high frequency loss (Sound induced)

Neither of us can find a SINGLE clinic locally that can cope with this,we both need molds but due to the low frequencies not being impacted we don’t qualify

We’ve tried boots and we’re too young, Specsavers don’t understand and keep giving open domes and a lot of clinics we’re too young

(Under 50)

I don’t qualify under NHS as my hearing is “fine” and it’s a three year wait for them

Costco isn’t an option,there is none locally.

ISH as in outside of the city as in sort of London,Watford is like 40 miles

Maybe that’s my wording “London-ish area”

Boots is a minimum of age 50 and Specsavers is 45

So the minimum age you are talking about must be something to do with NHS patients. However, if you were to go private, which I assume you are not, you could go to Specsavers/Boots/Hidden hearing etc in the Loughton area. However it seems you are after NHS provisioned services. So, I’m sorry, I can’t help there.

Costco is a 30 minute drive or thereabouts to Watford. I’m sorry that this suggestion is no good because it’s not in your “locality”. There are a few people on this forum in the London area, they may be able to help. From my experience most have dealings with private clinics however.

I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume your not a prat

We have tried boots, Specsavers and it is the same story,all under private provision both of us are too young (they don’t take for NHS)

I can assure you as we have tried 5 different Specsavers and boots and it is the exact same result

“You are very young to have hearing loss,this must be medical we can’t help you”

We are looking for private provision

If you are looking for private provision then why not go to specsavers or boots? There is not an age limit for that. Sorry, I am just confused now.

I can assure you there is an age minimum in our Specsavers and boots in the area

It is up to managers discretion wether they’ll take an under 50

why do you want the moulds out of interest? they can do them with large vents for mild/normal low frequency hearing. are you expecting them to aid your right ear as well?

My Audiologist is Ben Mann @ Click Hearing. I use the Upminster branch, they also have
branches in Chelmsford & Homchurch.

I have been wearing hearing aids for over 50 years. During that time, I have had a number of different audiologists. Ben is by far the best I have encountered and would highly recommend him,

I live in South West London and it takes to a minimum of 90 minutes to get over to Upminster, there are a number of much closer alternatives for me, but I have no intention of using anyone else

Uh, what high “amount of gain” is that, you don’t need much at all going by your audogram, unless you have something else going on even open domes should be ok for that loss, but as mentioned how about a custom mould, seems strange for such a mild to moderate loss in 3k to 6k in just one ear, but at least you could “tolerate” it. And could you stop being “argumentative” as you come across as just ranting, your best bet is Costco on price alone, too bad it’s a bit of a drive but at least you have a chance with no age requirement, which is a non issue if you pay full price and not looking to be subsidised.

with an open dome the 50 input is being pushed up to very little effect most likely. you might need less than this with a mould, provided they do . it might be as simple as asking your current provider to do a REM? if its been done then nevermind.

Well they shouldn’t “scream” (I’m guessing you mean feedback) at all if set correctly for your level of loss with open in normal circumstances, so after all this time any update? did you resolve your issues.
