Philips 9050 Bluetooth Streaming

Hi all.

I’m on day 3 of wearing my new hearing aids and they have been fantastic, I regret not getting them sooner.

One issue I seem ot be experiencing is trying to stream audio from my Motorola G75 (which has Bluetooth LE) to my 9050’s.

I can connect them and the audio works but as soon as I put my phone in my pocked the audio starts cutting out and even disconnecting. I never had this short range with my regular ear buds (or other devices).

Is this just a limitation of the 9050’s or if anyone has any suggested fixes to try I would be very greatful.

I have tried restating both devices, forgetting and reconncting the bluetooth connection.

I have open domes so am considering purchasing some noise canceling over ear headphones and wearing the 9050’s underneath - but I would like the bluetooth to the 9050’s to work.

Thanks heaps for any ideas or suggestions.

What you describe, in my experience , is normal with Bluetooth LE (plus streaming with open domes can be bad: it does not seal the sound in the canal).

I order to get decent streaming , your phone needs to be close (very) to the aids .

If you upgrade your phone to a device with an Android nLE Audio, your streaming will be significantly better. The issue here is the Moto

Getting Samsung or Pixel, plus android 16 is the way forward, should do wonders plus even better get Poweramp App your music will sound so much better, as mentioned open domes are unsuitable for good “Bass”

I stream with my pixel 9 in my pocket with the 9050 all the time without issue.

One thing to check it to make sure it is using LE audio. On my pixel there is a switch in the bluetooth settings to enable LE audio and if not enabled I get cutting out like you are describing.

The number of phone models with LE Audio is unfortunately very small (pixels , high end Samsungs, a couple of moto , few OnePlus …)

The list would need to be undated on a regular basis to be of any use, the manufacturers compatibility lists can’t really be relied on.

So, has anybody tried using a dongle such as the Floogoo FMA-121 or the Avantree Aura to get that experience on phones with no native LE Audio support? Is it a viable solution?

Edit, using the FMA121 to transmit an broadcast from the phone to the hearing aids does seem to work, but it seems very clunky.

The Phillips app already will find an Auracast broadcast and connect the 9050 hearing aids to it, and bypass the phone’s Bluetooth connection.

Regular Bluetooth often has these kinds of connection issues. The newer Bluetooth fixes all most all of them.

Kendrite really needs a new phone or lightly used phone that can connect using the newer Bluetooth LE Audio. The newer and slightly used Pixel and Samsung phones should use the newer Bluetooth LE Audio.

Phillip’s web site lists the Android phones that can answer phone calls using the tap feature on the hearing aids and all of them should use the newer Bluetooth LE audio.

They are backward compatible. But they are not forward compatible. Motorola isn’t going to update your phone. You are expected buy a new phone if you want the latest features.

What Kendrite can so is to buy transmitters for the TV sets, stereos, and computers. Using Auracast will bypass the regular Bluetooth and you be able to listen to these devices with fewer disconnection issues. However, I have noticed some distortion issues with one hearing aid. Don’t know if it’s the hearing aid, the open dome or something else. I’m trying to figure it out.

I suggest Kendrite starts with a TV set to see if it helps some.

Philips has a compatibility list, and it says the G75 can stream, but it needs to go from music to via the Hearlink Audio Clip.

I think ‘regular ’ refers to the base level; Phonak uses that, and some Signias do, too.

BT Low Energy is kinder to batteries; it also enables and, I believe, MFI. Many HAs and phones use BT LE and support ASHA - the 9050s included.

BT Low Energy Audio enables . It’s in the latest HAs by GN Hearing and Demant and the latest Pixels and higher end Samsungs (Galaxy S 24 and later, IIRC).

The type of BT has to be backed up by programming to make streaming connections. A lot of the Motos have the necessary h/w for ASHA, but not the programming.

Kendrite doesn’t want , that won’t help. My Pixel 6a has ASHA, and all the connections issues the Kendrite has. With my Pixel 10, those issues are pretty much all gone.

Kendrite needs a phone that can use tap control/hands free.

Go to the Phillips website for hearing aids and look for Android phones to have hands free control. It’s currently mostly Pixels and Samsungs.

There are plenty of used Pixel and Samsung phones that will work if money is an issue.

I don’t see a reference to hands-free calling. I have tap control, and frankly I don’t see it as beneficial.

If the Moto G75 were -compliant, this thread would probably not exist, because ASHA allows streaming from the phone to .

The phone is the problem, not the HAs. If a new phone is possible, I agree it would be wise to get something -capable, although some HAs do tap control with the Pixel 8a, etc, even though the ‘a’ series is not auracast-compliant. The G75 is relatively new, however.

The Hearlink accessory is likely to work easily and reliably (except that there are a lot of complaints about the Oticon version) as is a different, auracast-compliant phone (except I had trouble with my Pixel 9). The dongle approach may be harder to get working.

The Moto G75 can be sold - ebay, backmarket, swappa (my favorite), etc.

Yep new phone,no more issues.. simple, the refurbished ones have become quite cheap nowadays if you don’t wanna spend too much.

does allow streaming to the phone, but it’s Bluetooth classic. As such, it will not fix Kendrite’s issue. My Pixel 6a has ASHA with Bluetooth classic and streaming drops very often.

My Pixel 10 with Bluetooth rarely drops streaming.

Kendrite needs a new or slightly used later model Pixel or Samsung phone with the newer Bluetooth LE Audio.

The reference to hands-off on the Phillips website is a bit buried.

I’m pretty sure, any Android phone with hands-off is using LE Audio. So that’s why I mention it.
