New hearing aids and I feel like my entire viewpoint has changed

Sooo.. ya girl got upgraded since I was past my 3 yr warranty on my old hearing aids with somewhat minor but aggrivating issues with my left hearing aid. Since my audiologist reviewed my most recent and suggested moving to adult hearing aids, gone are the sparkly purple but I managed to at least keep the molds colorful (sue me, if I’m gonna have boring hearing aids, I’ll make them colorful). I went from Lumity Sky L-SP to Naida L90-SP

I had low hopes considering the last 3 times I tried to get a left hearing aid, it had ended in either:
a.) Volume being too low/high despite my audiologist saying it matched my audiogram
b.) Molds not fitting correctly/being irritating
c.) THE HORRIBLE FEEDBACK!

But yall… these hearing aids blew me out of the water!!! Out of all of the hearing aid fitting appointments, this was the fastest I’ve ever been in and out. When my current audiologist turned on just the left one and I could HEAR??? I felt like I was in one of those “Deaf person hears for the first time”. Both of them fit perfectly and the feedback on my left side is gone!!! After YEARS of failures, I finally have the other piece of a puzzle. I won’t be relying on just my right side anymore. I can hear behind me! I can hear voices in other rooms!

I’m so eternally grateful for my audiologist who finally listened to my complaints and worked so willingly with me to give me the hearing I’ve been needing (and missing). I know the excitement will eventually die down, and it feels like such a silly thing to be excited about but I just needed to ramble about how happy I am. I know it won’t always be there but this has just been such a positive experience. I hope everyone on this forum gets to experience that feeling <3

I wonder what fitting formula (aka prescription) they used. The proprietary Phonak formula does not give as much sound as the formula. If you’ve had hearing aids since childhood, you’re probably used to the DSL formula, but when people age up, the software changes it to their proprietary formula, which is not what they are used to! Either way, good news! Keep that audiologist :slight_smile:

I have seen these while browsing on Etsy before and never thought to get them because my hearing aids have always been colorful but I guess I better start shopping if I wanna keep em colorful. Do you have any fav colors?

Had to search what formula was, was not aware there were whole formulas behind hearing aids and prescriptions but that makes a lot of sense. My audiologist had inserted tiny microphones with the molding and did a bunch of testing to see where the audio was going when my hearing aid picked it up (I hope this makes sense, LOL!) and he had mentioned using my as a baseline. Whatever he did though made almost all of my feedback go away and I’ve actually been alble to hear on that side for the first time!! Unfortunately the clinic I go to seems to rotate audiologists every couple months as I’ve never had one consistant audiologist :frowning: but I’ll try to hang onto him for as long as I can !

Yes, it makes sense - the audiologist was completing on-ear verification to ensure the aids are giving the correct output. Everyone should have that done, but unfortunately not all providers do. Glad you learned something new :slight_smile:

You have great, tight (silicone?) earmolds with probably a 0.5 mm vent, not larger, which greatly helps solve the feedback problem. This also helps achieve the appropriate target gains.

To be honest, I would like such an earmold and Iam a bit envious in positive meaning.

I have so many of them! Silver, Gunmetal, Black Onyx, Turquoise, Sapphire, Amethyst, and Pink Tourmaline.

I always wished manufacturers would make the fun ‘kid’ colors in adult aids. If it were an option, I’d absolutely buy sparkly purple hearing aids and use a boring brown skin to match my hair for the 1% of the time this might matter in professional settings. But since that’s not one of the choices, these are great!

Look into tube twists, too. Those can add a nice pop of color.

You can use stickers to decorate your aids! I found little sparkly gems on Amazon - meant for nails but they work on the aids :slight_smile:

Yes!! I desperately need manufacturers to remember that not everyone is wanting to hide their hearing aids and was so dissapointed that the most “sparkly” one I could get was more like blonde than gold. Boooorrrinnggg. Snooze button. Yawn..

But those sleeves are such a good middle ground! I guess I’ll survive with the boring colors as long as I can have a ball decorating them XD

Not an audiologist so take my response w/ a grain of salt but the formula is basically the programming used to fit hearing aids and set an exact amplification depending on the persons hearing loss and hearing aid needs. Mostly used with kids but is also used with adults!
