Hey guys, I’m a few weeks into my first set of hearing aids, and I’m having some trouble. For context, I have hearing aids, largely due to financial constraints. I got the Elehear Beyond, due largely to the stellar reviews it receives for the price point.
The issue is, I get a significant buzzing issue in both hearing aids. It isn’t constant, but rather overlays many sounds, almost like the sounds are getting distorted. It happens mostly on voices, mine especially but most peoples voices to some extent. It seems somewhat intermittent, sometimes the sound is crystal clear, but usually there is this underlying buzz distorting sound. I am reasonably confident it isn’t feedback, as it happens even with on very low volume, and on very quiet noises.
I initially thought it was a defect, and the Elehear support agreed and replaced the device. Well, the new device came in and has the exact same issue, so it appears to not be a defect. At this point, I’m not sure what to do or think. I cannot seem to find any underlying pattern. It happens on all types of domes at all volumes, with or without noise suppression, with or without the directional mics enabled, in quiet environments as well as loud environments. It happens indoors in small spaces, large spaces, good acoustics or bad acoustics, even outdoors where acoustics shouldn’t interfere.
I am running out of ideas. Is this something inherent to cheaper OTC options? None of the reviews I found talk about this whatsoever, on any hearing aids for that matter. I thought maybe it was a bizarre reaction to adapting to wearing them, but at this point I don’t even notice them most of the time, and the sound already is otherwise feeling entirely natural.
Any advice would be great. I really don’t know what I can do besides return them. I’m well within my trial period, but there aren’t many other options in my price range, and I really don’t want to give them up, they’ve made such a huge difference in my day to day life.
