Phonak audeo infinity sphere with ultra software review

This is my journey to the sphere. I started in the around September of 2024. I was issued the lumity hearing aids. They lasted about 2 months and one failed. I returned them and was issued the phonak audeo infinity. I heard that phonak was coming out with the infinity sphere but I could not get it. In January of 2025 I returned the audeo infinity before the trial period ended and waited until June of 2025 to be issued the phonak audeo infinity sphere. I have completely occluded molds for the receivers. From June of 2025 to September 2025 I had the receivers fail 3 different times. My audiologist ordered completely new spheres in October of 2025. I went in and had the ultra firmware loaded to my hearing aids in May of 2026. I have been back several times to have the noiseblock and windblock reduced. I am now at level 3 on those settings. If I am in wind and someone is walking next to me it seems that their voice is suppressed along with the wind. It is nothing to have winds blowing 20- 35 miles an hour fairly consistently in my area. This similarly happens with noiseblock in an environment where it is noisy. Has anyone found a good setting for the mentioned features? It does seem that the spheric mode works well with the aids. If I am in a real noisy environment where lots of noise is taking place I do have problems hearing unless a person is right in front of me only a couple feed away or closer. If someone is say 4 feet away even the roger on may not pick up in a noisy environment with lots of background communication.

I’ve been using my Sphere i90’s for a month. I bought them from online Genesis-Hearing-Health ($2327 for the pair) who did the first fitting from the I sent them along with a couple of program adjustments.

Even after the initial setup from them, my Sphere i90’s were far better than my Phonak Paradise aids. Originally, I intended to do remote fitting adjustments with Genesis, but I screwed up and did a small volume adjustment at a local audi’s office, and that stopped Genesis from being able to do any remote fittings. My bad!

After that I decided to . I had done that in the past with other Phonak hearing aids, so it was a short learning curve to get back into it.

My hearing aid day is around 16 hours long. About 40% of that time is spent streaming TV or the phone, 40% is in the calm situation program working on my computer or in my shop, and 20% is in noisy environments where I use the Spheric Speech program.

I removed Autosense 7 from the rotation, set up the Calm situation, spheric speech in noise and mute as the only three programs I use.

I live in a windy environment. It impacts my hearing outside and in the car.–not to mention it’s generally annoying. I found that the best way to manage the wind noise was to turn on the Spheric in Speech program, which eliminates the wind noise almost completely so I can hear speech better. On occasion in the car, I use the Calm Situation program with the volume turned down one or two clicks. That works well in the car.

I said in a previous post I felt my hearing was 95% as good as it was going to get with the adjustments I’ve made. My hearing is at the bottom of moderate to severe, but it doesn’t call for P receivers yet. However, this weekend I switched to P receivers with EasyGuard domes, and after 10 minutes of volume adjusting, I think I’ve reached 97%. I’m going to post about that later. Hope you get your Sphere i90’s adjusted to fit your needs. In that post about the 95%, I talked about the carnage axiom that bites engineers (and hearing aid DIYers). Hope you don’t wind up there.

Glad to read about it! :innocent: I suppose the most benefits will be in noisy conditions or with music and /or streaming.

Phonak Target software saves all the information about the fitting in its database on the computer the fitting was done on. Then it’s possible to connect by Wi-Fi to that computer for remote fittings through the Phonak MyApp. .

Remote connections have to be made from the last computer used to save a fitting session.

In my case, Genesis-Hearing-Healthcare sold me the hearing aids and did the initial fitting. Once I did a fitting session on another computer, then Genesis could no longer link up to my hearing aids for remote adjustments.

To allow Genesis to do remote connections in the future, Genesis would have to have my hearing aids next to their Noahlink, open a session and do a save and close. Then the Genesis computer would be the last computer used for a Target fitting and could remotely connect to my hearing aids again.

Genesis told me I could mail my hearing aids back to them for reconnection to the Sphere i90s. I told Grace, the Genesis HAP that does the fittings, I would get a new Noahlink and the fitting. She offered to loan me a Noahlink, so I didn’t have to buy one. Wow! How kind.

It wasn’t a big deal to me. so I bought a Noahlink in China for $88, and while I waited for it to get here, I borrowed one locally for a couple of days to finish my adjustments.

Phonak should fix that problem. It’s a pain.

Your hearing loss is comparable to mine, so I can understand where you are coming from. Before I purchased the Spheres I was advised by an audi that at some point I would still need to rely on my Roger On, and that advice turned out to be true. When background exceeds 74db it gets tough to hear conversation. Having said that, the Spheres are an improvement over my previous Lumity 90s.

I have windblock on all programs except Calm Situation set at max in Phonak Target, which is 20.

For me, I never found Phonak’s Dynamic Noise Cancellation (Found in Speech in Noise program) that effective in Phonak Lumity, and the same in Spheres.

A custom Spheric Speech in Loud Noise program was created in Phonak Target where I have the hearing aid microphone, Spheric Speech Clarity, Sound Relax, Soft Noise Reduction, Windblock and Whistleblock all set at maximum strength; mainly to avoid fumbling with the slides within the Phonak app.

As I said, Phonak Spheres are an improvement over the Lumitys, but they aren’t a “game changer”. I struggle more in venues that are large in area but yet quiet enough where Speech in Noise or Spheric Speech in Loud Noise is not activated. An example would be a quiet retail store where I have a hard time picking up speech from the clerk on the other side of the counter.

There are products such as “Ear Gear” ==> https://www.amazon.com/Ear-Gear-Hearing-Comfort-Protection/dp/B011D9J1H4?th=19 that protect from sweat, wind etc but then you have to remove these every time you recharged.

You have more complex fitting changes than I have.

Which receivers and domes are you using?

There were too many trade-offs.when moving the slider options around in the Autosense programs. For me, Autosense 7 didn’t do much to improve my hearing, so I took it out as an option.

Initially, I tinkered with the Calm because the voices, especially female voices, seemed too sharp, but each adjustment caused unwanted consequences, so I went back to the default settings. The clarity was excellent, but the sound was not natural. But that wasn’t a significant issue for me. So I ended up with only three custom programs, Calm, Spheric Noise and Mute. Calm is the default, and of course, there’s streaming with is automatic.

Switching to the P receivers finally fixed the voice problem. I posted about the switch and how it worked out. So everything is excellent now.

Road noise, wind, and mechanical noise from things like HVAC equipment irritate me, but I’ve been able to control it with the Calm volume or the Spheric Speech. At first, I was concerned that when I turned the volume down in the Calm program for riding in the car or working in wind, I wouldn’t be able to hear the person speaking to me as well, but the opposite turned out to be true.

In restaurants, the Spheric Speech has been great, but I have the Roger pen and select if I need them. My problem is I forget to bring them. They don’t help much when they’re at home. I used them frequently with my Paradise hearing aids, but very, very little with the Sphere i90s.

i have the M receiver. The audiologist did fit me with p receivers, but changed me back because she said Phonak recommended the M receiver for my loss. I have the acrylic molds with no vent. Totally occluded. I did have real ear measurement done.

I approach the wind problem differently than you do. I turned off the wind block in Calm, but I use Calm to stop the wind noise. Here’s my longish post about how I set up my aids. Sometimes I turn on Spheric Speech in windy conditions. I can hear well with either one, but both have their pluses and minuses.

The hardest fitting problem was during streaming. Balancing the ambient noise and streaming volume so I could hear the TV and my wife was tricky. But I found it.

You don’t need the P receivers for the headroom or managing compression issues when getting close to the headroom maximum. However, because the actual speaker in the P receiver is 60% larger than in the M, the P might improve fidelity for you. But that’s an individual issue. My audi isn’t hearing what I’m hearing, and neither is Phonak, so I do what sounds best to me and not what should theoretically sound best.

There are some good information that people have tried here. Thanks all. I will test the sphere mode in high wind which I did not think of. Here is what I noticed with my aids. In calm situation, speech in car and speech in noise I notice that noiseblock attenuates voices while blocking external sounds at default settings. Especially in calm situation and speech in car I want some of those external or environment noises to come through because they give me an awareness of surroundings and it is more similar to regular hearing. Unfortunately as mentioned noiseblock for some reason attenuates the voices also. This happens with windblock when I am outside. I need to hear the traffic noise to be aware of surroundings. This is maybe where the spheric mode may help. I know some people do not want the extraneous noise. I do because it gives me situation awareness.

M receiver is too weak for you. P receiver is minimum, but depending on your ear canal size, probably the best could be UP with a maximum of 0.5-0.8mm vent diameter or no vent at all (but with deep fitting from silicone form which reached at least 5mm past 2nd bend of ear canal).
