Trying Phonak Easy Guard Open Domes (Lumity L90-RLs & Elehear Beyond Pros)

Hi Hearing Tracker community,

I recently tried the new Phonak Easy Guard Open Domes (medium) on both of my hearing aids: my Phonak L90-RL and my Elehear Beyond Pros.

Overall, the domes work great. I didn’t really notice much difference at all. The only thing I perceived was maybe a slight loss in volume, which was easily corrected with a small volume adjustment. On the Beyond Pros, I also boosted the treble up one notch. After those tweaks, everything sounds right and they fit comfortably.

One additional note: the Easy Guard domes help prevent wax from getting to the . That should help reduce the need for replacement wax guards, which could be especially helpful since Elehear’s wax guards can be pricey.

The lower volume makes sense because of the membrane that guards the receiver. The programming software has different options for them in the acoustics section.

What I don’t understand is that these domes are significantly more expensive (on Amazon, $26 , other places on the internet: $40 vs $10) but the only advantage is that you need to change them less frequently?

I just don’t see the advantange unless you are a person that forgets to change the and then complain that the aids aren’t working properly. I must be missing something that justifies paying more than twice for the domes.

I’m not trying to sound negative, I would like to learn more about them.

I had a fairly good experience with them at first. The softer, more flexible material did seem to reduce the occlusion effect for me, which was the main reason I was interested. Unfortunately, that honeymoon is over: after a while they began irritating the opening of my ear canals, so I stopped using them.

I may give them another try now that I’m using a water-based lubricant and the irritation has settled down, because the initial result was genuinely promising until it wasn’t.

I also agree that I’d like to know much more about what they actually offer beyond the marketing. At the current price, without clearer evidence of a meaningful acoustic or comfort advantage, it risks feeling more like premium merchandising than a real technical improvement.

I don’t personally have a wax problem, but I wanted to try these. If you do have wax issues, these are probably a good option. On the Elehear Beyond and Beyond Pros, the are extremely expensive—some of the highest-priced ones I’ve encountered. That makes the Easy Guard domes especially worthwhile if you’re prone to wax buildup.

NO doubt
My question was about value/$$ (replace the wax dome more often or use one that last longer). If they were priced the same. I wouldn’t have asked :slight_smile: . Plus I would like to know if there are other benefits. The regular Phonak domes are very cheap.

Of course my comment does not apply if you get free domes from your provider.

I have never tried them, but softer silicone seems less encouraging for me (YMMV).

I tested Unitron ordinary power domes (not Easy Guard) and they were better just because they had thicker and a bit stiffer silicone flanges. Thanks to this, they have more earplug effect, so better isolation from noise, more effective noise reduction and directionality and became less prone to feedback.

If someone isn’t having wax buildup issues, they probably won’t feel like they’re “worth it.” If you’re already comfortably getting good mileage from the regular domes, then the Easy Guard model may not justify the extra price.
