Your ideal hearing aid forum?

I tried a few searches. If I give a few key words and a full user name I get nice responses, but if I use partial user name it won’t find it. Makes you pick one user, the exact user, which one might not remember well enough to pick. No fuzzy option. Asterisk didn’t work. Phonak, oticon, audeo, etc. a bunch of terms are frequently misspelled. Maybe smarten the search engine up to these issues?

Also, do have suggested search corrections functioning, but need to add more of the common brand mispellings like “Opticon”

Working on the common mispellings… I noticed the current forum fails and returns exact matches for “Opticon” so this should be a good enhancement…

Regarding fuzzy, did you mean in the primary search input or in the user name searches? The primary search should be fuzzy, but we also need to build a list of canonical spellings for brands and products to improve that… the issue is if there are lots of mispellings in the actual data, the fuzzy won’t know to look for the correct spelling.

I’m actually surprised anyone is doing this kind of search. Curious how common this is. We can definitely fix it, but just surprised is all.

Regarding this, can you tell me what you tried because everything you said didn’t work seems to work for me.

I tried:

• Opticon (corrects to Oticon)
• "Opticon" (searches for Opticon)
• Then I removed the first returned item in that search result with "Opticon" -"ConnectClip only"

What other ways would you normally use?

Why display the body matches before the title ones? That could be a sort or search toggle?

Google claimed that “word” could be used like +word but people suspect Google+ was the motivation.

Search is not only about the number of results but also the display order.

Testing locally, I don’t see that. What search triggered that for you? Maybe I fixed it already.

Third example I gave. I refreshed and the results are the same. It looks like the relevance sort might be linked to this.

Login failed for me when I tried the login using the same user, pass that I’m logged in here.

You won’t have a password set on the new forum, so you will need to use magic link or gmail to login. Sorry, forgot to explain that.

Edit: Actually, I think you can create an account with your same forum email by setting a new password here:

I tried the New here? create your account with a password option and I get the “Check your email to confirm your account.” message. I tried twice with no email sent to my account.

It’s possible the email went to spam. I’ll check for you tomorrow to make sure you’re not on our do not email list (if you’ve ever marked our emails spam in the past). I just checked with a new account and got the email.

The login flow still needs a little work. Sorry to anyone that experiences issues. Need to iron all that out once it’s a ready ready.
