New Phonak Platform?

Oticon Verit is a stripped down version of Oticon Intent - without a 4D sensor and on disposable batteries instead of rechargeable. So it’s ~2.5-year technology.

It’s not always 2 years, but still at least Sonova are available at Costco, as for when they should get them, I’d like to think within 6 months of general release.

Not sure why Resound and Oticon decided to sell their latest tech in Costco? I guess they are not as “smart" as Phonak,LOL ![]()

without a 4D sensor
But what’s really missing? Here is Oticon’s description of their 4D sensors:
Since Verit doesn’t have an accelerometer, it’s missing the middle two items. But the first and last items are regular hearing aid functions that I think are necessary to be competitive in the mid-2020’s. So I’d be surprised if they were stripped out of Verit. And while I haven’t experienced the benefits of body and head position sensing, I’ll go out on a limb and say that environment and conversation scanning are more important.

My theory is that the 4D functions need more battery power than replaceable batteries can provide within the available space. Disabling these functions seems pointless unless there are actual physical limitations. The Verit isn’t positioned as a lower-tier aid AFAIK.
In my opinion, the only reason to buy the Verit is if someone prefers disposable batteries (or the option), and I’ve noticed many people in this forum are passionate about sticking with them.
Our hearingtracker.com who wrote in the subtitle of the Verit review “New zinc-air models bring Sirius platform processing, -driven sound features, and modern iPhone and Android connectivity to users who prefer disposable batteries”. If you want the 4D senson, get the Intent.

Accurate.

If you are anticipating a “A Quiet Place” future in which you might need to use the feedback made by your old hearing aids to drive of alien invaders, then you might want some good battery options to hold onto.

Err… no. In that movie you definitely don’t want to cup your ears. My wife: ‘Well they told that child not to make any noise’.

I think you’re ignoring how head movement is linked to map the sound scene and how we engage with certain people in busy conversations, the aid recognises both of those with the accelerometer function.
The Verit is a cut-down version which loses all 4 of the pictured functions in the zinc-air battery version.

OK, maybe I’m underestimating how effectively these factors work together in one-to-one or small group conversations. But are you really saying that Verit doesn’t monitor acoustic environment and conversation activity as part of general operation? I think I remember reading about those things even before Intent. Like, monitoring conversation all around you is how a hearing aid lets you understand speech coming from behind you.

From what I’ve seen, any time a use

No, you are not!
From my experience, only can deliver significant performance gains for speech in noise. Anything else is just marketing and will at best deliver marginal improvements.
My understanding is that Oticon uses head movement to tweak the narrowness of their beamforming. Some HAs allow to change the beamforming angle manually from the App. I have never found that to make a big difference when I tried it in noisy environments.

I do the hearing aid will be slightly shorter but looks about the same width at the bottom. I don’t think it will be a new platform just more advanced from what I have heard

If you have relatively open acoustic coupling you will feel less benefits from directionality.

I use power domes. I find that in most cases directionality only helps a little bit. Yes, it might reduce noise from the back and the sides, but in a noisy environment noise usually comes from everywhere, including the front.

I have just ordered a pair of the Phonak Audeo sphere ultra i90’s & was undecided what to go for but decided to go for the Sphere ultra because the Audiologist said that if I purchased them I could exchange them for the new ( supposedly smaller ) Spheres in a few weeks if I want to when Phonak releases them, according to the Audiologist he was told by phonak that the new aids would be smaller
only time will tell, but I asked them to put in writing because I have been stung twice by Audiologists so I am very sceptical, I do like the idea of having a charger with it’s own battery because I quite often go off grid.
PS I do like the idea of the new Phonak easyguard domes.

That was a good ideal to have them put it in writing! Seen on a you tube channel. (Hear’s the answer) That oticon and phonak are having a new release event last week of August.
