Have not reported in a couple of weeks because not much to report since May 22 surgery, June 11 activation, July 2 follow-up and latest July 30 Audi appointment. Aside of Kanso 3 experience.
I wore the Kanso for a month straight for 8-12 hours a day. No real difference in N8 and Kanso as far as hearing experience. But, I have decided that the two processors that I receive from Cochlear will be both N8’s. and returned the Kanso. With 4 magnets fell off a few times and was hanging from the hairclip that came with it. That hair clip is a frustrating little piece and pulls on hair when Kanso falls off, putting on and taking off. I may get used to this but more potential falling off is a concern. Along with the Kanso being at least twice as thick as the N8 magnet attachment. Pressure and discomfort when I have a cap on and I would not even try doing any activity with it - I have golfed a couple 9’s in the N8’s without issue.
I am bi-modal with a sphere in my non-implanted right ear. I have had a couple of situations to test how these do in specific situations. I feel that I am pretty much the same as with pre-surgery with two sphere’s in as far as day to day. I was at a wedding reception and loud. Nucleus on own - forget it. Sphere in spheric with Nucleus just about same as two spheres. Loud restaurant the same. I feel that this will only get better. Making out some if not a lot of streamed words so this is progressing. Next report will have more data.
I spend pretty much daily time for 2-4 hrs reading to self, streaming audiobooks, Hearoes or Co-pilot. She did not do word recognition and will do so at next appointment on 9-11 (I did ask her to change date) and start specific programming. I think that she only cranked it up a few. Her report is below. I do not really understand it all. I also read BiModal User’s new thread on questions to ask and I am light years behind understanding electrodes, music, forward focus, Scan, Scan 2 etc etc. Too new, I guess.

Aided thresholds = soundfield testing was performed with the implant and an earplug in the right ear, and thresholds were obtained to narrow-band-noise (NBN) stimuli between 20-35 from 250-6000 Hz (35 dB HL at 500 Hz only).
Programming:
Patient was programmed with the N8 processor today. Parameters included strategy ACE, mode MP1+2, 978 Hz rate, maxima 8 and 45.6 PW. Implant site was checked and no redness or edema was observed. Size 3i magnet remains appropriate. Impedances were measured and were found to be stable compared to previous measurements. Datalogging revealed 3.9 hrs hours of wear time per day.
The following programming changes were made:
- Ts and Cs increased 5 CU overall.
The N8 processor was programmed as follows:
P1: Map 7 with SCAN
P2:
P3:
P4:
Estimated battery life: ~15 hours a day
Oh, and a bit different subject but maybe some feedback . My residual hearing in my implanted ear is zero, as expected. I have left sides of Lumity Life and Sphere’s that are no good to me I would guess. Not sure they support Cros or if it would even matter or if they would be of any use to anyone. I wear the rights bimodally. Also have a 312 set of Costco KS9 (marvels) that I do not use. Maybe classifieds or small contribution from anyone to pay ship or pick up in Chicago………….??
