Hello to the group.
I’m new here, but have been reading the posts for a while now. I’m in my late 60’s, with an engineering background. My hearing loss was caused by a combination of genetics and a 50-year love affair with racing cars and motorcycles.
Given the information posted on this site, and with the approval of my audiologist, I have jumped off the deep end of the pool and begun the process of learning to self-program my Smart-III’s.
My audiologist gave me a copy of my fitting data on a flash drive and I have locked it away as read-only files on two different computers. I’ve also managed to totally mess up and then restore my fitting data a couple of times.
As posted earlier by someone, “this is not for the faint of heart”.
An excellent suggestion made earlier on this site was to set up a new “client” for each new variation of settings, and to make only one change at a time.
This makes a great deal of sense.
Where I’m having trouble, is understanding the File save, (HI, database, etc.) and the export/import procedures.
Is it possible to duplicate a ‘client’, continue making modifications on top of the previous settings, and then save it to a new client name?
Is it possible to do a “compare” of database contents with the HI’s?
I’ve searched for documentation, watched all the on-line movies from Phonak, and googled for information, without much luck.
Last question: Can anyone recommend a good book along the lines of “Audiology for Dummies”?
Thanks for any advice people might be able to pass on.
-Doug
