Phonak naida aids and Maximum Power Output (MPO) Settings

I wear phonak naida V sp aids ( core series ). I think I may need to make the mpo of my aids a bit reduced so that I could avoid very loud sounds. Changing gains is not solutions because it reduces all gains and affect my speech understanding. I only need to prevent some high level outputs. I think it’s reducing mpo settings. I have the ipfg software on my computer and I don’t see where I could play with mpo settings ? All I see is gain settings which is not the answer. Any ideas ? Thanks in advance .

If you program your aids, you can try doing both. Make one change and wait one or two days to get used to the new setting.

The can crush G80 at selective frequencies, if you know which are affecting you.
I have the same problem with very loud voices. Reducing G80 about 6db making sure you don`t change G60 can help, but does appear to upset what you hear. So apply with caution.

I have had some success with a bit of both. More with the MPO. But I find too much can cause distortion, although that may be my hearing. Too much amplification also does not help. But if you are working with an original , it should be a good starting point.

causes distortion for me as from where my hearing loss is in my left and where the MPO is set, everything is within a 15db range which cashes huge distortion. :frowning:

I sometimes get uncomfortably loud sounds regardless of what input level or frequency. Therefore , I guess reducing the peak output (mpo) may help .

@JohnD, I don’t have any programming device. I am gonna talk about this to my audiologist but I need some information or suggestions before heading to her office.

I downloaded the ipfg software from phonak and played a little but I still don’t see how to set mpo in the software .

Got to Fitting—Manual Fine Tuning. Then Select Parameter. At the top is Very Loud . Using the Adjust Parameter you can expand or contract the channels depending if in Configuration/fitting prefs, you have “detailed fitting level” ticked.

As you wont damage your aids, you can try the Automatic Fine Tuning. This shows what happens when you make the adjustment. Its not something I use, as I find the change can be excessive. For me, a 1db change can be good or very bad……

I’ve been playing around with the Target software and I’m gonna reduce my mid frequency to under the safe level of 132db when I see the Audi on Monday.

When I reduce the MPO, it also reduces some of the G40,60 and 80 slightly but not much.

to under safe level of 132!!! WOW!! What is a safe level?

My Right MPO is 116db. My Left MPO is 113db. This just about stops very loud voices, including very small children with very piercing voices from sending me nuts!

This has taken a while to evolve with changing hearing, and I have to stretch the softer sounds to help out.

Phonak say the same level is 132db, I’m not sure why, I’ve always wondered why they think that.

At the moment, my mid frequencies is 140db on my left. Everything else is only slightly different to each ear with my left ear being the highest.

I think reducing the MPO for me will help with loud sounds and hopefully feedback :slight_smile:

My Audi has done the complete opposite and now my on both Naidas are 6db higher and its SO much better.

Still getting the warning stating MPOs are above 132db, any lower and I can’t hear, lol.

Maybe I have high power needs?!
