Resound Verso - Is manual volume adjustment never needed?

I am a novice. I am trying out a pair of Resound Verso 961 demos because the didn’t have the 962 available at this time. But if I get a Verso it would likely be a 962. The 961 doesn’t have a manual volume control button.

My question is, is automatic volume control so good now that manual adjustment is unnecessary in any situation?

It seems to me that there must be times when it would help to override the automatic volume. Or am I wrong?

My hearing aids have a default volume setting but my volume adjustment is manual. i can’t imagine the automatic would be as versatile as manual. What if you don’t want to hear so well?

The patients I have in the 962’s rarely use their VC. It’s a nice feature to have though. I always think you should get whatever features you can if they don’t cost more and add to the flexibility of the devices.

I adjust my up and down as needed. I understand that the program recognizes those changes and the HAs adjust the default level as needed.

Today I was trying to read and my wife put on the TV to an annoying game show. I say “trying” to read because those shows are designed to capture one’s attention and interest. The Resound Verso 961 hearing aid that I and demoing did not interpret the TV as noise (as I did) and may actually have amplified the TV.

If there were a volume control I don’t know if turning it down would help – as these in-ear receivers have air space around them. I am wondering if there is any way to lower the sound in this situation – aside from removing the hearing aids and inserting ordinary ear plugs. I could pull the receivers out of my ears and let them dangle while ear plugs are in.

Does anyone have other ideas?

I have the Resound Futures; no volume control on board, but I have the remote, and now with Phone Clip+, an app on my cell phone. I am very pleasantly surprised that I seldom feel the need to adjust volume.

I say seldom, not never. There are rare occasions when I do adjust, and I find having the remote control worthwhile.

I would agree that a manual volume control is a nice feature to have. If you are in a noisy environment and you want to turn the volume down it’s nice to have the option, same can be said for turning it up.

I also don’t have manual volume control on my Aleras, and use the remote to change volume/programs. I occasionally use the remote when at noisy places, but my master program usually does well in moderate background noise environment.

For the style, Resound offered wireless function in half-shell but not full-shell. Consequently, I gladly did without VC and in order to accommodate the larger size 13 batteries rather than 312, which has a much shorter life.
