Hearing Aids in Dirty Environments

Do any of you have experience wearing hearing aids in a very dirty environment resulting in a lot of repairs? I’d be interested in learning any novel strategies to deal with this. Think: smoke, dust, welding, mechanical work. Moisture isn’t really the issue.

You might try wearing headphones over the aids. Shooting ear muffs have volume controls on the OUTSIDE, so you could still hear with them on. You can surf up to Amazon.com5, or check these out here for an idea.6

I am very active, so sweat is about my worst problem (altho I do hike in occasionally windy/dusty conditions). I’m religious about putting my aids in a Dry 'n Store unit every night. But that’s mainly to reduce moisture and kill the bugs (with UV light).

I’d consider bespoke electronic shooting plugs - just for work. They’ll cut out noise, still allow you to hear and will be far more robust for the kind of dirt you are in.

When I’m in a sand trap the hearing aids come out. Afraid the dirt and dust will
effect them negatively. At night they always go into my dry and store box for dehumidification.
This has greatly reduced my repairs.
