Guys, I need your input and if you are a professional, even better. I have switched from double domes to custom ear molds. My ear mold is what you call a lock mold. It is not a full skeleton mold but has the tail piece on the bottom. If you google ear canal lock molds that should give you an idea.
So the receiver clicks in the hard molds. The receiver has a white on there. However the ear mold itself does not have any filter. I think some ear molds use those HF4 wax filters to add to more protection to the receiver.
Do I need one of those. My audie said no however, some strange occurences have been happening since switching to earmolds. I have always had earmolds but never with a hearing aid.
At least once a day one of my hearing aids will suddenly sound very low. At first I am like: “Dead battery?” No battery was not dead. I brushed off the hearing aid mold and used the wax pick tool. Hearing aid worked fine again.
This happens once a day and it has happen to both my left hearing and and my right hearing aid.
I do the same drill, take out the ate and clean it out. No signs of wax. Tonight it happened about 8 times in one hour. I noticed that when I pushed on the ear mold against my ear I got it going again. I should mention it rained today and when it wasn’t raining it was pretty humid.
Again I don’t see any wax but I am sure moisture gets in there especially with this humidity.
I did a full cleaning going over the ear receivers with my jodi vacuum and taking the molds off and giving them a full cleaning. I put everything in my Global Dehumidifier for a couple minutes. I have the aids in now. All is fine.
Could this problem relate to moisture getting to close to the receiver? Should I get the HF4 filters? What do you guys think? It is annoying when your hearing aids do spontaneous things like this. I never had this experience with the double domes. The double domes have a build in filter to cover the receiver though. I am wondering if the HF4 filters would add a layer to of protection.
If the problem has NOTHING to do with moisture and wax, what would be causing it. I would think defective hearing aid but BOTH of them doing it, sounds like something is causes the hearing aid to suddenly drop in volume. The only cause I can think of is moisture and/or wax.
Thoughts???
