Costco Kirkland Signature 9.0 (Product Information)

My completely unscientific take, but based on a variety of posts from many readers. Who knows? There seem to be a lot of subtleties in how these devices are set up and used, combined with changes occurring with both phone and hearing aids software updates. We have reports of things working differently for different users. If you have some reason to change, go ahead and give it a try. If it doesn’t work, return them.

You don’t need the app to use your phone with the KS9 aids, android or mfi.
I don’t believe the app has anything to do with the aids pairing with your phone, could be wrong about that though.
My wife has an iPhone with KS9 aids. She says they work great together. I do not know if she has the app on her phone, I think she does.
I have the Audeo M aids and an android phone, they work great together too. I do not have the Phonak app on my phone.

Don2, that’s what I believe as well. For me, it’s a huge benefit to be able to control my aids via the app and be connected via BT audio to any other device. It does lead me to believe that they could enable multiple BT audio connections via a firmware update.

You are correct. The app connects to the aids on a different protocol and serves as a remote control only. If you connect your aids via the regular BT connection procedure, then you can listen to audio through whatever device you’ve connected to, which does not have to be the device that hosts the app.

Update: I just returned my original Kirkland 9s and purchased K9s with the T-Coil. I had been told that they would be larger. Frankly, I don’t think I would have noticed the difference.

Most of the settings were simply copied over. However, they needed to re-run REM. In this setting, the HA specialist demonstrated three different REM settings and I believe set mine at the highest. This has resulted in a different sound experience. I think I would like it for music, but I believe voice recognition was better before. I’ll probably go back for an adjustment.

I haven’t used them in a loop environment yet and will be interested in that experience.

And they use 312 batteries like the regular KS9? Just want confirmation. Thanks.

I should note that when the REM procedure was done, I was facing a corner of the booth where two speakers were set up --one for each ear. As a result, I was facing away from the screen and couldn’t see the settings.

Laughing out loud! But in reality, I think the HA specialist would have been happy to show me the settings on the screen, if I had thought to ask.

As I understand their REM procedure, they use two external speakers, set up in one of the corners of the booth, and then insert some sort of ear buds into your ears (without the aids in place) and play various noises–using one of the speakers and then the other. Then they go through the procedure with the HAs in place. I assume this must tell the program what your ears are really hearing.

That accounts for me sitting with my back to the screen during the process.

Raudrive, I was kinda thinking the same thing… that the three different REM curves were really just the same target prescriptions for three different volumes of speech (virtually the same curves). That’s what it looks like in Phonak Target.

I’ve been wearing Phonak HA’s for ten years and never had a problem with sweating. Now, one of my aids sometimes shuts down when I perspire. Is this a defect with this aid?

I first get a beeping like the battery is low, then the aid goes out. I open it up and let it dry out for a while and it works again.

Any advice?

I don’t often use the phone app, but recently used it to connect and disconnect from the TV Connector. I don’t like the fact that it takes awhile for the app to discover the aids–seems easier to simply use the buttons on the HAs to change programs. However, I noticed the ‘balance’ feature at the bottom of the screen, which provides a nice visual picture of whether the HA is favoring the TV sound or the surrounding sound. A screenshot should accompany this note, to explain what it looks like.
