Was there any sign of Apple supporting it in their iPhones? Yesterday’s launch of the iPhone 17 phones didn’t mention it as far as I can see?

All the A.I. overviews swear the 17 has LEA. Either that it has it already, or has the software capacity of Apple chooses to enable it. It’s hard to get a straight answer from a google search.

It has the right level of Bluetooth, but there is no evidence that Apple has incorporated the codec in the iPhone 17 nor that they have made any statements at all about LEA. If you ask Chat GPT, you get a much fuller response than the Gemini overviews. But it all confirms that they aren’t doing anything about currently.

From UPF, it looks like Intel, Microsoft, and Google have already launched their unicast implementations and are actively working on , with releases coming soon. Apple, on the other hand, is keeping very quiet — mainly some progress on unicast, but not much on Auracast yet.

Phonak has been the clear leader in classic Bluetooth hearing aids, and I don’t think they’ll abandon that platform anytime soon. Because of this, they seem less focused on unicast and more invested in .
All the big players are moving in this direction: WSA (Signia, Widex, Rexton), Sonova (Phonak, Unitron), Demant (Oticon, Philips) and Cochlear are all actively working on Auracast and are all very close to launch.
We’ve tested Avantree Auracast transmitters with each and every one, and they all work seamlessly.
No official launch dates yet from UPF, but we know:
Some brands will use their own apps, while many will rely on the Android/Google app.
GN/Jabra (ReSound, Beltone) is still ahead of the pack, with most new models already supporting Auracast plus their own app integration.
Interestingly, a few vendors are still releasing models that keep classic Bluetooth alongside , so both paths are supported for now.

Unfortunately NO… My feeling is they might consider Unicast in iPhone 18, but not even then. Hope I am wrong.

It’s all quite disappointing. I was intending to buy an iPhone 17 Pro tomorrow when pre-ordering opens. But as the 17 Pro still doesn’t support , I think I may keep my iPhone 12 Pro for yet another year.

Yes that’s what I stated. ![]()

Are you sure? I keep reading that LE audio is part of bt6.0, but I cannnot find any definitive answer what the iphone 17s will support.

I am sure.
6.0 does support , but the iPhone 17 series doesn’t. Maybe Apple can implement Low Energy Audio with a firmware update, but they have said absolutely nothing about that.

There are a lot of optional components to which don’t have to be implemented in order to claim compliance. is optional, even if you claim LE.

Hardware can support but sometimes it doesn’t have the codec and then it doesn’t work at all… It needs both LE Audio and LC3 codec.
