Getting used to self-fitting and programming via Connexx over the last few months.
My question is what would one be aiming for by creating a specific program for Movies/Cinema?
What is the exact model of Signia you are programming, but yes you could use a music program, but there’s a dedicated TV program as well that you could try, this would work pretty good with no background noise in a cinema.
Ok then, so make some adjustments to make up for those, speech is the number one thing when watching tv and at the cinema, going to the movies for me is no problem, as in everything is very loud, music sounds very good in this situation just as well as speech.
So it sounds like you’ll need to use your pre set music programs, there’s 3 to choose from, recording, live and music, try all 3 and to find the one you like best, you’ll need to actually trial in the cinema to know for sure.
But I’ve never heard anyone get great results from type for wide range dynamics (for music in particular)
8 years ago, when I got my first hearing aids (Phonak Q90s) my wife and went to a movie. I’m guessing that the are sophisticated enough that they can tell the difference between live human voices, and recorded human voices. But there were these two ladies behind us that would whisper during the movie. Mind you, they weren’t whispering very loud, but they every time they did it, I could “hear” my HAs refocusing on them, and I could no longer hear the movie well. It finally got so irritating that I took them off for that movie. I told my audiologist about it, and he set up a program that focused in sound coming from 180 degrees or less. That worked. When I later got a set of M90s, I just manually set them to focus sound at 180 without setting up a regular program.
This makes sense, however it is a little counter intuitive with the rise of surround sound and in particular discrete channels - they’re not only all around you now, but above as well!
There has to be a happy compromise in there somewhere!
Well this is far to subjective to say for sure, but type would be a good start, Oticon More has got very good reviews on this forum, Signia Pure AX is worthy of a trial, ReSound One for you with M& could also be worth a trial, back in the day Widex was very popular with musicians, unfortunately I’m not seeing great reviews on the forum for the latest Moment models.
You can very easily get a lot of specific specifications from the software if your really keen to know so to compare between brands.
Just ask if you want these and we’ll gladly send you the links.
