I just wanted to update: after trialing the Oticon Xceed 1, Phonak P70-UP, then M70-SP, then 2 pair’s of Starkey’s, then Phonak P30-UP, finally it was found that the P50-UP was best fit. The Oticon Xceed’s were the best in my opinion had they not had reverberation issues, could not figure that out, their wind management is superior, their Genie Software is superior, compatibility wasn’t great, the reverberation could not be corrected, but best sound quality otherwise. The M70-SP’s weren’t powerful enough, there was lots of reverberation on the mid’s, otherwise they would have been alright. The Starkey’s had some weird issues like rubbing against my hair was really loud, feedback issues, and didn’t sound great. After all this time I can say, the P70-UP is a noisy circuit. The audi thought about it and suggested trying the P30-UP. I was skeptical, but he had them, and they were too quiet of a circuit. Coincidentally, the P50-UP are inline and balanced with the old Naida Q50-UP I wore, which makes sense. And here’s the other thing, I do feel very minimal pressure with the P50-UP but no where near the P70-UP which felt like my head was going to burst. The P30-UP the pressure was nonexistent but so was some of the minute background noise I would like to be aware of, comfortable with my surroundings. The P30-UP did seem to struggle a little bit processing noise, where as the P70-UP would process anything it picked up overwhelmingly, almost a nuisance for my situation. The P50-UP imported all my old settings balanced too, which the P30 was audibly underpowered and the P70 was audibly overpowered.
With all this being said, I still have no idea how an audiologist could simply prescribe whatever he/she felt suitable and find a correct fit, there are way too many factors to be overlooked. If I had settled for the P70’S I would have harmed my hearing and turned a bad situation into worse. If I had settled for P30’s I would have continued my perpetual disappointment. Now I’m not saying the P50’s are great, but after trying Oticon, Phonak, Starkey, they seem to be at least as good as the Q50’s. I was really hoping for an improvement this purchase since the last two pairs were substantial downgrades as far as the analog hearing aids I had prior to digital aids. And I am not willing to downgrade again, my social life has already diminished, my speech has diminished and my ability to communicate is non-existent since the development of digital aids which was never the case with analog aids. I used to be lively and energetic and excited, now I am a monotone, flat, expressionless individual as a result of the digital age. So I guess at least I can say, I got something as good as the old hearing aids, no more no less.
