App to Switch Streaming Audio Between iPhone Speaker and Hearing Aids

I have a pair of Phonak Audéo L-90R hearing aids. I have them paired with my iPhone SE 2020. I’ve been able to live stream the audio to both my hearing aids and the iPhone speaker courtesy of an app that RadioIQ (NPR in central Virginia) included with their live stream app.

It seems to have been wiped out by Apple’s latest patch, 16.3.1.

Does anyone know of a stand-alone app to do this quickly?

More than once I’ve opened a phone call and discovered a weak signal coming from the iPhone speaker. I’ve used the RadioIQ app to switch to my ears, but that is clunky and slow to accomplish.

I do not wear Phonak aids but it may be worth checking if there is an updated firmware for your aids. Since this IS version was just released they may not have a version ready. It should be worth calling your hearing professionals asking them to contact Phonak about the behavior change and asking about upcoming firmware.

It is not easy to find, but Phonak does let users know that their hearing aids are NOT mfi (Made For iPhone.) Therefore Apple’s instructions for pairing are useless. In the fine print you learn that Phonak hearing aids are paired in the Bluetooth section of Settings.

I repaired (no I did not fix them) my hearing aids with my iPhone and now everything seems to be working again.

iPhone has a built in way of switching output sources. In a phone call the audio button )top right) will change to any connected device. Same goes for apps that have audio - there will be an option to change output sources. Unless I’m misunderstanding the idea…
