I too have been with dpreview since 1999; I didn’t realize Amazon was including them in their recent RIF. I learned a lot there, and as a newcomer to the hearing aid user community, have learned quite a bit here, including, and not least, from the aforementioned members currently in “time out”.
I get that online user communities have their “social club” aspect with regards to frequent posters - the informality that is normally reserved for acquaintances gets extended to newcomers that may be asking questions they’ve heard many times before…and have an experience as if they just barged in on someone’s conversation at a dive bar in some western outpost.
superbestaudiofriends.org2 (a headphone-oriented audiophile forum) is a lot like that, but they are up front about it (“…don’t be a dotard…read these rules…we do this to keep the noise level down…”). Hearingtracker is not that kind of a forum, from what I’ve seen. I’m all for lively discussions and humorous comments, and there are ways to keep it civil and inviting.
