Damped and undamped earhook difference

What is a “damped earhook”? Where does this damper actually attach? Is it on the receiver/speaker? Is it to give a better seal to the receiver in the ear? Your audiogram is about what mine looked like a few years ago, and I’ve never ever even heard of a damped earhook. Would love to know why your audi put one on?

That white material is meant to help reduce moisture to the hearing aid receiver. I had them removed from my ear hooks to get more gain. I have a hearing aid dryer to reduce moisture inside the aids.

My left earhook is damped rigt undamped now.
@Um_bongo , is my right hearing aid under the risk of getting more moisture? I use hearing aid drying capsules at night. I live in a relatively low moisture inland city.

It’s standard to have damped earhooks here. All my hearing aid earhooks in the past were damped.

Do you leave your hearing aids in a capsule beaker or electric dryer?

Used to use an electric drying dry and store.

Now use a beaker as I’m in and out of hospital.

After wearing the undamped Xceed for a full day, moisture droplets were seen in the long tube. As I could not pull the tube away from the hook, I switched off the Xceed and put them into air tight jar with desiccant overnight. Next morning, the tube is clear of the moisture droplets.
The Audi show me how to pull the long tube out of the ear hook. Apply a little more pulling force and bent the tube a little. Getting a pair of mould in a couple of weeks.
A 2 inch by 4 inch jam bottle provide a good air tight container for the hearing aids.

The first bit is saying moisture won’t get into the Aid because of the damper which could clog with moisture.

The second bit is counteracting itself. Not having a damper could result in moisture getting into the Aid because you don’t have a damper in the ear hook to clog with moisture, so where is the moisture going to go? Not an undamped ear hook is better?

There was a thread started by someone else where’s moisture got in to the Aid through the tube and stopped his Aid from working.

He’s technically correct and not actually at odds with what I said.

The dampers are there for resonance modification. If you flood them, they can inhibit the sound. So his suggestion of an undamped ear-hook is theoretically better and going to be fine until you flood the receiver.

I’m keeping my left damped and right undamped. I’ll be changing damped earhook every six months. And using drying capsules.

Just be careful tho as you’ve managed to block the ear hook with moisture anyway which means you have a moisture issue despite using a beaker. Moisture can get inside the hearing aid.

I’ve never blocked an ear hook apart when I went swimming and while HAs in locker, they partially blocked.
