Philips HearLink 9050 to hit Costco soon? With similar tech to Oticon Intent?

I’ve never had as much done in a first meeting as I did when i went to Costco for my hearing test, word recognition, speech in noise and got to test out hearing aids while walking around the store for 10 minutes or so each time, tested all 3 in one meeting, - such a more realistic test than at the audiologist office where they ask in a booming voice " how do they sound" far from a test in the real world in a relatively noisy environment. being able to try 3 brands at one session was fantastic, i knew right away which one I preferred, in 15 years of hearing aid wearing I never had an opportunity like that, along with unlimited adjustments, 3 yr loss or damage, and a phone call at 35 months to get the hearing aids returned and rebuilt at the manufacturer before the warranty expires and free loaners during any repairs!!! try getting that at your audiologist office !!

I am new here, and have scrolled through this discussion. Like many others, I’m interested in comparing Oricon to the Phillips 9050. It seems that people generally think the Phillips is similar to the Oticon Intent 1; some say almost the same, some say there is some difference.

But there are 4 Intent models, with #1 being the lowest configuration. I wonder whether people feel it competes with the Intent #2, #3, or #4? Thanks.

The Intent 1 is the top model. They have used reversed numbering for the last few series of models. The lowest model is the Intent 4.

I’m in Australia, and I have found websites that make 4 the highest and others that make 1 the highest, so I am confused. Thanks for clarification.

So are people saying that the Phillips 9050 more or less compares with the top of the range Intent, and therefore presumably outperforms the bottom of the range?

The 9050 Philips will have more channels to adjust your hearing aids, then the lower tier Intents. So I would go with the Philips over the lower tier Intents if price is an issue.

The software is different between the Philips and the Intents. That alone makes them not the same. I don’t remember reading where someone took the hearing aids apart and revised engineered them to see if the internals are the same.

Whether the software in the Philips is good enough for the price is your call.

Note that hearing in noise is where most of the emphasis is being done by the hearing aid manufactures. Currently the Resound Viva/Jabra30, the Phonak Spheres and maybe the high end Starkey hearing aids are the leaders.

Sorry, the Hearlink app doesn’t give the firmware version number. On my last visit to Costco Hearing, my guy told me the latest firmware has provided capability and offered to upgrade my HAs on the spot.

I would suggest you try them out yourself, since there are so many variables. For $1700, you can wear the Jabra 30 for up to 180 days and still get a refund at Costco. After I get my hearing retested next month, I plan to test them to see if they are better then my 9040 Philips.

Anyhow, if you don’t frequent noisy environments much, you may prefer the Intents.

Demant hasn’t announce that they have upgraded their firmware to be aura cast compatible. I don’t think it is as of yet.
