New Child-Proof Hearing Aid Battery Packaging

I finally ran of my old-packaging batteries tonight and had to open up the new people-proof packs.

I have a set of trauma shears that can pretty much cut through anything. The shape of the package means it only fits at the tip of the shears and I used two hands for better control. The battery still ended up flying out of the pack. I know I’ll get better at this, but wow. My own mom is almost 90yrs old. I’m glad she has rechargeable devices.

With a sigh: I am in general skilled at fine motor things including with tools. But I was caught off guard by a battery change requiring breaking into a new stock of batteries in different frustrating packaging last week.

My solution? I had the closest young child get the battery out for me. :rofl:

I haven’t read this thread in a while. So if this has already be suggested, sorry. I found an easier way to open the packaging. Be careful if you try it. I used a 3/16 or so drill on my cordless drill. Drill out the plastic bumps and it comes apart easily. Maybe leave the last one? Will try that next time.

Now I need to come up with some way to store the liberated batteries. I saved the last non child proof but it is showing its age.

Having read the entries, I submit: First, when the government writes a rule or regulation it’s one size fits all. Second, The obvious, if you don’t own a tool or devise to open the packaging, you need to buy one. Third: Did anybody from the aid battery manufacturers talk to the bureaucrats who wrote the regulation explaining the differences between zinc air and mercury batteries? Probable a waste of time anyway. Fourth: If the regulation is changed, is the industry, after retooling for the new packaging, going to be in a rush to change packaging again? Consumer pressure would help.

There’s no need for cutting.

  1. Remove the paper backing

  2. Get a Bic Lighter

  3. Flash the lighter on the bottom of the plastic for one or two seconds.

  4. The plastic softens instantly

  5. The batteries may fall out, catch them or just easily pull apart the plastic.

  6. Store each battery separate.

Hello everyone, I have just launched my latest hearing aid battery storage solution on Etsy. This is our thinnest model yet measuring in at about 1/3 of an inch. The case rotates to reveal one of the eight batteries stored inside. The lid is held securely in place with a locking mechanism and also rotates and clicks into place to reveal one of the eight batteries stored inside. Unlike similar cases on the market, this one can be fully opened making it super easy to refill the case or take a look at how many batteries you have left. The case for the 312 batteries is up and the other sizes will be available soon.

Is there a position so that if filled with eight batteries, none of the eight batteries fall out? That aspect is hard to see from the photos.

I have not personally tested it, but credit cards are next to much stronger magnets (cell phone, magnetic wallets) than these and are not impacted. The magnets in these cases are tiny. 3mm x 2mm and encased in plastic.
