LACE AI PRO auditory training

In the description of the video there is a link to purchase where you can use discount code DRCLIFF to save money off the $499 cost of the app.

Oof, pre-pandemic Lace was $99. I wonder if they’ve come up with better research evidence since then.

Used to be just 99 USD for the patient directly, self directed.

So… just checking my understanding. You take a product selling for 99 USD, involve audiologists in the distribution, and the price goes up to 500 USD?

I mean, it didn’t have an app.

I’ve been using it daily for over a week. I love it, except there is too much needless clicking. The fill in the blanks mode for instance shows you which category the next question will be from, and you have to click to proceed. The other categories don’t do that but they are even worse with pop up cheerleaders chirping at volumes greater than the test exercise volume! You have to click to get past these characters even if you listen to their unwanted identical speech. /////Every mode I tried has needless clicking to move on from message screens to the next test question, even though the message is the same thing. My wrists hurt if I use this program often because of all the needless clicking. For instance, when you start the rapid training, the cheerleader explains to repeat what you heard to… Click to get rid of her and go to the hearing test and you get to hear it then a pop up message tells you to repeat what you heard silently. Unbelievably, you have to click to advance to get the written answer of what was said. It should just move to the answer after a wait of a few seconds while you compose your thoughts and lower your eyes so you won’t see the answer. Then you click yes if you heard it, which makes sense. It sends you to the next test which is fine if not for the annoying click you have to do after the test. But if you say no (because you didn’t hear it clearly), you have to click to have it repeated. It should automatically repeat the sound after a few seconds wait, because after the sound plays again you can either keep clicking repeat or click continue which is a sensible way to have the system set up. $400 Cdn for a lifetime AI hearing training is a bargain that no one should pass up, but they need to get rid of the clicking by either removing it or allowing users to change their settings to get rid of it - but I bet no one likes the clicking so just get rid of it please.

It’s AI, so you do it from your phone or desktop, free for life, so it has to cost more up front. Formerly you had to see the audiologist but not now.

You can also use a desktop and hearing aids to do the tests. I like that because it is like a real world face to face condition, because face to face conversations are not streamed.

Yes. Well sort of. Basically they suggest you pass that fee on to all of your patients by increasing the cost of hearing aids and also argues that the value of the app is so good that it’s worth even more than that and you can charge them extra and make additional profit if you want. A bit like…make this drug affordable by just prescribing it to all of your patients regardless of whether they need or want it. It’s a model that I don’t love. Given the rather weak evidence for efficacy (despite the dramatic website marketing claims) I would have liked the option to try it a bit more experimentally.

That said, I’m certainly interested in your experience. You can’t have been using it that long because it hasn’t been available for that long. But you use it every day still? And like it and are experiencing benefit? And don’t find the AI people too creepy?

I don’t like Paloma and the others who cheer me on, because they are louder than the narrator and I don’t want them anyway. So I told that to LACE when they asked for feedback. I also told LACE to get rid of all the needless clicking needed to continue to the next test. The missing word has even more unnecessary clicking, telling me cooking will be the next question so I have to click to let them know I’ve been warned (which thankfully noise training and speed talking training do not warn me about when they shift to a different group.) I’ve only done the exercises for the 10 days I have owned it. I can’t imagine not continuing with the testing because I’m not doing well and need any help. My audiologist said my hearing had deteriorated 2 years ago, despite me using hearing protection plugs whenever I can, and not being in a noisy environment. I don’t know if I have received a benefit because I’m on day 10.

I have 4 relatives who visit every month or so, that I can’t understand because they speak too softly or their voices die off at the end of sentences. I am going to get their voices added to LACE as 4 separate “Mu Voices.” If LACE helps at all in understanding them, it will be worth the price of the program for me. I will post here about that in future.

Most of us here don’t know what the LACE exercises are and I was hoping you could explain it to us, and let us know if you feel like it has improved your understanding of speech in noise. And we’d like to see your audiogram, too, to understand what you might experience without aids.
