Chuck, Your posts are very concerning to me. Your words imply that you know everything that needs to be known, and better than anyone else knows. Is that what you really mean to say? (If it is, it’s a ludicrous claim.)
Yes, I have 2 university degrees. I’ve studied mainly history, politics, and languages. The language profs told me what to think about language learning, which is IMO entirely appropriate for language learning.
My history and politics profs told me what to read but rarely told me what to think - and the assigned reading always included books and articles with multiple points of view. It was up to me to decide what to think and to defend my decisions.
Actually, one prof assigned only works he wrote, and he provided only his POV. I didn’t buy it - i made sure I looked at works written by scholars he attacked.
I, too, had a career in IT, and I did a lot of consulting. My observation is that there was a hell of a lot more waste and corruption in the corporate world I saw than in the government world I saw. After all, government relied on taxpayer funds limited by legislatures, and corporations just bumped their prices up to cover their incompetence, malfeasance, and greed.

I just wanted to mention that this forum offers the option of filtering out people (permanently), which someone kindly reminded me. For anyone caring about “the ambience”

Yeah @Reginald_II on an extremely rare occasion, I have used this feature, some folks just push the wrong buttons, or it’s a clash of personalities, whatever the reason, it’s a handy feature… Cheers Kev ![]()

To me this is over stepping of government, which is more communist than anything else
Are food safety regulations, for example, “communist?” How about mandatory-education regulations? Seems like a little more “communism” in that department might be a good thing…

Golly, I can now add threads with USB C in the subject to threads with Replaceable vs Rechargeable Batteries in the subect to the short list of thread types to avoid.

Think of it as a way to judge the credibility of various posters, or how much too much they’ve had to drink. ![]()
This might be a good place for a link that some might find useful. It’s the answer to the blatantly obvious query that took me all of several seconds to type in. If I hadn’t been at my keyboard already I could have spoken it into my phone in slightly less time. Although the more pertinent question might be why so many people spend far more time advertising their cockamamie thinking despite having sensible info at their fingertips. https://www.perplexity.ai/search/how-did-eu-arrive-at-usb-c-sta-1IJwstnDSZqkZdQVXRgiPw14

rechargeable hearing devices are supposed to have user replaceable batteries too now.
It would be interesting to know if there will be replaceable batteries in the hearing aid chargers

Until their latest model Oticon used to have lithium ion batteries that were replaceable by a hearing care professional.

It is not stated anywhere that it applies to medical devices. Then pacemakers would also fall into that group, I say this jokingly. I think the regulations apply mostly to non-medical devices, a hearing aid charger would have typeC because it is not a medical device.

He’s talking about rechargeable batteries replace-ability, not usb-c connection.
And you’d be surprised, even truly medical devices are split into further subcategories, of which some still have to be fully user replaceable.
This regulation also forced Apple to make iPhone batteries easier to replace.

if there will be replaceable batteries in the hearing aid chargers
Oh for sure, it would be pretty much impossible to argue that they’re some kind of “special devices”.
There are fully compliant earbuds on the market already which have both charger and the earbuds with easily replaceable batteries.
The Fairbuds noise-canceling earbuds have an easily swappable battery3
These buds are meant to last more than just a few years.

Although standardized plugs seems like a good idea, but it stifles innovation and creativity.
Standardisation doesn’t stifle innovation per se. What it does stifle (and rightly IMO) is innovation without collaboration.

10s of millions that draw checkes that never worked a day in their lives. They get a check, health care and food stamps for doing damn nothing.
Just the same in the UK. The way taxes is distributed seems to differ

However, without competition companies rally have an incentive to innovate and improve anything. In the U.S., after WWII, General Sarnoff, the CEO of RCA, Had enough political power to force the FCC, (Federal Communications Commission), to Standardize TV in North America to his, RCA standard. This continued until the Bush administration mandated digital HD TV in the early 2000s. The U.S., ie. RCA standard was not the best in the world, but we were stuck with it for a lot of years. Now the world will be stuck with USB-C at least until I’m dead and gone.

and that’s because devices absolutely cannot have two different ports, correct?

Why two different plugs? Apple developed the Lighting plug years ago. Maybe they were working on something better than USB-C. But, now they would stop developing it because of the stupid decision by the EU mandate. I have no inside information about what anyone is or was developing. Or, It could be some small entrepreneur who comes up with the next new thing in power plugs. Imagine the EU mandating VHS video tape in the 1980s. Had that happened the DVD would never had been developed. When governments interfere with free enterprise, progress stops.

Apple said that it will remove the cable from use, the smartphone will be charged wirelessly with the QI standard. If Apple is not satisfied with Usb C, it can develop a new one with other manufacturers to make the next generation of cable.
USB Type-C will be in use for at least 10 years until they offer something new and better.

I have to say that you made a really stupid comparison about VHS, no offense. This (cable) is about something general that’s not that bad. Do you need a better cable??? If so, why???
If you’re curious about how Apple stands in the area of QI standards??? They’re still at 15W, while others, for example the Motorola Edge 50 pro, have 50W
Is the government stifling Apple??? And if we look at. on the other hand, If Androids hadn’t started offering larger screens, Apple would still be selling smartphones with 3.5 inch screens. Apple. realized a little late that people want. a bigger screen.
I don’t mean to offend you, I just think you’re looking at it the wrong way.
