Basic Program Set-Up Including Bluetooth

My Hearing Aids are Resound rechargeables, but I am even unsure of their actual name. On my Invoice, they are referred to as “Resound ONE-4” but in the brochure, I see “Resound OMNIA”. I am using the Resound-3D App for both my iPhone and iPad.

  1. I understand that I have to turn Bluetooth off on the device I am not using, and on, obviously, for the one I am. Is this correct? Why can I not use both at the same time? I use my iPad most frequently.

  2. Next, I have such basic questions that I feel rather foolish.

But I am having difficulty understanding what each program setting option actually does and what to set each program at; in other words, how do I choose an option?

For example, under “Program Overview”, what do the two options actually do? They are “all around” and “hear-in noise”? I need to know their uses before I know which one I actually want.

I have the same question for the options for every program.

You should have had all that stuff explained and demonstrated to you by the audiologist or other source you got the hearing aids from. Since you evdiently did not, you should go back to that source and ask for a proper orientation session. But in the meantime, since I have Jabra Pro 20 , which are apparently identical to or very similar to your Resound HAs:

  • You only need to pair each input or output sopund device (e.g. cellphone, iPad, laptop computer) to your HAs ONCE. After that, your hAs will automatically interact with the specific device being used. For example, I have paired my Jabra 20 HAs to my MacBook Air, my iPhone, and my iPad. As I use each device, it sends its sound signals to my hAs with no issues and no proactive action by me. If i ahve ALL those devices right beside me and “on”, my HAs seem to get the sound automatically from which ever device I happen to be interacting with.

  • The “All Around” mode gives the same weighting to all sounds from any direction and applies the normal “cleanup” processes to them.

  • The “In Noise” mode will try to emphasize conversation over other backrground noises in a noisy environment, like a busy restaurant or party, This mode can also be “tuned” by your audiologist or other practitioner to “narrow the cone” of sound that it actually amplifies in oreference to sounds from all other directions. When set to say a 90 degree cone directly in front of you, it helps immensely to enable a conversation with someone directly in front of you in a loud and/or busy environment.

Your source for the HAs should have explained the above and a lot more to you. Go back and INSIST on getting a PROPER education on your HAs.

Thank you very much for taking the time to answer my questions. I will certainly try to get back to that Audiologist for a better tutorial. My problem, Jim, is that I am pretty much bedridden and, when I do go out, I am so distracted by my discomfort that I don’t always retain what I hear. All of which is to say that I do not think I can blame her 100 per cent.

I could sense your aggravation, which makes me appreciate, even more, that you took the time to answer what were probably pretty foolish questions from this old lady. Between you and Mr. Google, I feel I have learned a great deal in the last day and I’m feeling much more confident about programming these Hearing Aids.

Thanks Jim. This is the kind of information that I have been looking for. I also have the Jabra Enhanced Pro 20s and their app documentation leaves a lot of room for clarity of what the various functions actually were designed to do. Their technical writers seem to think that saying the name of a button is the same thing as an explanation of its function.

BTW before I got the real hearing aids, I tried the Apple AirPod Pro 2 as hearing aids. They were uncomfortable, and I didn’t like the occlusion effect. However the best part was that they automatically would switch from my iPhone to my iPad. I assume that the Jabras will do the same thing as long as I have the app on both devices and connected to each one? Is that correct?

This video also applies to the Jabra Enhanced Pro 20 hearing aids which are also made by GN. The only difference is that the app for the Jabra brand is blue and for the Resound app it’s red.
