Same where I am. I’m pretty friendly but I have yet to meet one in the clinic in the last, what, 1500 hearing aid patients. I don’t even think I have secret DIYers unless they are weirdly careful about reloading my settings whenever they come in. I had one who asked and I told them I couldn’t get them the software but that it was available out there and I would absolutely help him out at my regular office visit rate, but he still ended up just having me fit his aids and then I suppose was happy with his settings because it never came up again.

I can only commend you @Neville for your gift of understanding… The vast majority of ’ers, IMO, DIY out of necessity, whether that’s for financial reasons, or poor hearing outcomes from their own unskilled A.uD’s? Unfortunately, not all Audiologists were created equal, over 3 decades, I can probably count on the one hand the A.uD’s whom I regarded as exceptional, although in mitigation, I am a hard taskmaster! It has been 2 or 3 years now since I used Target, but I have no need, my present A.uD is in the exceptional category, exceptionally gifted, lightning fast on the keyboard, as she turns the monitor round to me, in order to explain what she is doing, she knows I’m interested, she also knows, I DIY… I think, she is kinda proud, when I told her, I had no need to alter her settings, she got it “spot on”, at first fit!!! I am a great believer, if it works well, then leave it well alone…I consider myself very fortunate to have found my present Audioligist, but not everyone is that fortunate…The hearing aid industry has its fair share of shysters, but that shouldn’t blind us to what virtue there is… Cheers Kev
