Hi there !

In my previous topic i trialed the Amplifon-Energy R5 ( Signia Pure Charge&go IX ) they worked great, i had no complaint with except in restaurant where i have to open the app to enable directional microphone feature to hear better.

No feedback while wearing a ski helmet, sound great etc …

So i was curious about the Sphere wanted to trial them and check if the stuff is something that can help me in restaurant (that i mostly hate to be here anyway) and the bluetooth stuff to connect to a VoIP Cisco phone to my working place. No for this trial.

So far so good the Spheric speech in loud noise helped me !

It’s funny to repeat to someone who have normal hearing what i said when i understood what i heared !

Bluetooth is working okay, with my pixel phone ( Phonak please give ASAP ! ) sometime it’s work great sometime i have sound cutting there and here

With the VoIP CISCO phone no problem so far so good.

That the funny part !

The bad part :

i have warble/vibrating/tremolo with sound like a ringing phone, a door bell, or with a woman voice.

And feedback when wearing a ski helmet …

it’s pretty confusing because i think the warble sound is here because my is trying to remove feedback so i dunno how my aud can fix it i asked to fix it but it’s not better …

For the mold i have the slimtip ( not sure ) with a custom mold, i’m asking if i change to the cshell can help with feedback ?

I posted photo with the previous hearing aid i have. it’s a custom earmold for the Beltone Amaze.

Hi. my advice would be create a program using the music program as a base and turn off feedback manager and whistle block completely. see if the warble goes away. If it does, then you know that’s the problem. I’d personally try a more or activent if you can stand the clicking they make when they open and close. At least if you turn off feedback manager and whistle block and hear the difference, you will then know for certain what is causing the issue.

Okay here some news :

I tried with the music program and with this website with my phone’s speaker : Chrome Music Lab5

And again same issue with the mid-high frequency and the flute even with the LarsenBlock feature disabled with the music program

i went to my aud to see if he can improve and for what he see i’m almost on the limt of my receiver it’s the P Type.

But to my suprise ( i don’t get why i’m used to use UP type receiver from Beltone/Resound with earmold ) he think if we go to the UP receiver route it may be get too louder to me ???

When i trialed the Amplifon-Energy R 5 ( Signia Pure Charge&Go IX like ) that was also with P receiver and i had no problem with.

I think i should insist, i’m on trialing the sphere anyway i have nothing to lose …

I think @LeNuageux isn’t eligible for ActiveVent. He has too much hearing loss in lower frequencies. There must be a:

  1. maximum 40 hearing loss up to 1000 Hz,
  2. maximum 70 at 2000 Hz,
  3. and a maximum of 90 to 95 dB at 4000 Hz and higher.

The above values are determined from the open state of the ActiveVent, which is equivalent to a 3 mm diameter vent.

Got lucky after the “Ultra” upgrade the password was removed !

No where performed.

I think i should ask my audiologist to get UP receiver ( i asked once he said that it will be too loud to me …)

Na it’ll be perfect for you, especially in those lower frequences, the software ( etc) determine how loudly they are.

I don’t get it why my audiologist said that it will be too loud to me …

The only advantage i see for the P receiver for him he can replace easily…

Yeah but still no cost to him for the Cshell moulds, this is a cost for you. Anyway you can change the P receiver yourself if you wanted to, looks like you’d need to ask him to elaborate on his reason’s.

Eeeeh? I just changed from P receiver in power domes to UP in titanium cShell with 0.9mm vent (ordered 0.6mm) and the loudness depend only from fine tuning… You should probably have no vent.

If P receivers were placed very deep and UP would be shallow in ear canal the latter can be even quieter with the same “” gains in Target software.

There vent on my P SlimTip receiver ! about 0.9-1.1mm

On the software it’s weird … maybe not everything is downloaded from the ?

It’s been manual entry as your Audiologist and the company making the moulds get the final say what size is ultimately used, target always has its recommendation which is easily overwritten, doesn’t change what’s actually stored in your .

Are vents suitable for my hearing loss?
This is a question which I also ask myself. Especially when I am after ordering 0.6mm vent for my titanium cShell, but I’ve got 0.9mm and I wonder if they can make it smaller in titanium cShells. Limitation of titanium technology or so? I found interesting article about closed acoustic coupling: There are some another from the same blog: Perhaps UP would be better than P? It has better frequency response in the highs also.

There are links for great audiology blog (in French!) about vents and potential of closed acoustic coupling.

Still, I feel strange why someone let you wear P receivers instead of UP…

So i asked to my audiologist why he choosed to use P receivers .

i am not kidding !

It’s for easy replacement in case If the receivers die. Whereas with the UP receivers you have to replace them completely

So i asked to try UP receivers he choosed UP cshell with titanium (because for him it’s more durable) with 1 mn vent

Next meet in a couple week to see !

Great. Although, regarding your hearing loss, 1 mm is quite large, and your feedback threshold may be lower than full UP receiver gain potential. I have UP with 0.9mm (ordered 0.6), and it can lower a bit of feedback threshold in my case.

In your case, every few of gain not hampered by the feedback threshold is invaluable.

If your feedback threshold will be lower than your target gains in , consider cShell deep placed with no vent. Impression should be taken 5mm past 2nd bend of ear canal.

Longer cShell (so also deeper placed) is better but I am not surenif you ear canal anatomy will make it possible - possibly yes.

That’s a very strange explanation. I admit that having the possibility of easy replacement is very convenient, but the main target of every fitting should be providing as much audibility and speech understanding as possible unless the patient requests otherwise. For example, because of their not demanding acoustic environment.

And he shouldn’t dismiss you by saying untrue info like “UP will be too loud to you” when even Phonak Target software says otherwise. Keep in mind that Target software is pretty conservative when it comes to provide adequate high frequency gain - usually it provides too little gains in first-fit.

Couldn’t one just use a P temporarily if the UP fails? Or if the cshell fits well order a spare pair of UP? Sometimes it is puzzling how audiologists want to save relatively small amounts of money when patients pay so much more for the aids.

The UP only come custom Cshell and can’t be swapped out, fitting a P after programming for UP will make them sound out of wack, everything will be to loud etc

in the case the UP breaks the audiologist had just to restore the older settings/session where the is configured with the P receiver. So it’s should be easy for him …

So got the UP Receiver.

My audiologist choosed titanium one, it’s new for me never got this material !

With the P receiver i had trouble with Feedback when i wear my ski helmet but by turning down the volume by 3 notches it’s gone

The UP one it’s there without anything … sadly i realised the next day that someting where wrong

Hopefully i can mitigate this by turning to maximum the “whistleblock” feature.
