Starkey Program: What is the use of Location?

I am new to Starkey and MyApp. I am evaluating a pair of Genesis . I stores 4 programs and I can then add custom programs in the MyStarkey app (which raises lots of questions).

But, I am firstly confused about Location. When I create a custom Program it wants to know a location. And if I edit an existing Program, it also wants to know Location.

So, how is Location used? Are there different edits for the same program in different locations? So, for example, I can make different edits to Restaurant Program based on different restaurants? Are these stored as one program but with different locations or do I make a different custom program for each?

And, how is Location used by the Hearing Aids or the App? Does it choose the program automatically based on GPS coordinates or something like that?

Would love to know if this is described somewhere.

I have the Starkey Edge .
I just looked at the app.
I set location on for my everyday program when I’m at the house.
So when I’m home that’s the program it should default to.
I’ve never set location. You made me curious.
I would imagine you can set different programs for different locations.
How many i do not know.
Play with it and find out.
You can always delete the location and custom program.

Let me know if you find out it switches automatically. I am surprised they don’t describe how it is used. My audiologist didn’t know and thought maybe it was meant for my use, to remember wehre I wanted to use a program. But maybe it is more sophisticated.

I’m pretty sure that’s what it’s designed for.
I have a Pixel 6a.
I know I can set the phone up for location so it does different things. I don’t.
I’m sure the aids pick back off the phone GPS.

I don’t have my Starkey’s any more… but I used different programs in different environments I visited. And the program adapted to the places I visited and had made a program for. So that’s indeed what it’s for.
Can’t tell how many different locations I programmed but I liked the future.
And if I remember well you can generate the program at the place you are at that moment by using the tap future for adjusting in the environment beeing and save it at that place as automatic.

Thanks for the response. Couple of follow up questions:

  1. Did the hearing aids automatically switch into the custom program you made when you visited that location? Or did you have to do it manually? Is location a way to do that automatically?
  2. You say the “program adapted to the places visited”. Did it somehow learn and make changes to the programming automatically? Or, you made the changes and saved them?
  3. The program settings seem rather limited. Only a 3 part EQ and turning up and down noise reduction and wind reduction. Is that it? Or are there other changes I can make?

Ok set it up.
First time not so sure.
Went to church.
When I got to church it changed programs automatically off of the home one.
When I got home it automatically went to the home program.
So if appears to work.
It’s not perfect but it looks like it can work.

Oh, that’s nice. Will have to try it. Sounds useful for certain regular places.
I wonder if you can have multiple locations per program? For example, a setup that one likes for Movie Theaters and then set it to the location of all movie theaters that one visits?

I tried it and see that I can set one location, but don’t see a way to set multiples. I guess would need to use separate custom programs unless I have overlooked something.

It tried setting Personal to my home location and it is nice when arriving by car to change. But I also noticed it can be a bit flaky. I left my home on foot and set to Outdoor. As I walked about a block away, it switched back to Personal (about where it would detect that I am home if returning). My guess is it registered as out of range and then in range of the location and made the switch. It also changed too early when returning home by foot (about a block away).
